My Ultimate Multi Mantis System(s)

Have people already tried to steal from you yet or are you just preparing?

Both...I have had attempted thievery which has been aggressively squashed and paid out...but I have am also preparing for the future.

With the quality of photography & videos that are about to happen it's very important to protect my works when others are looking to capitalize on others hard labors.

Back to reality...

I'm heading into the Glass Maker today to check up on the progress of the tanks.

Not sure if I mentioned this but the other display tank I had setup broke...the base shattered when my minions moved it and sat it on an uneven surface...

So I'm getting another display made and larger too! (8x2x2) to match the sump (8x2x2) I am also have a steel stand made which is being created as I type out of 50mmx50mmx3mm box steel and will be powder coated, this stand will hold BOTH sump & display, to decrease the foot print of everything.

Also recently picked up the 250L Fresh Water Storage Top Off Drum, which will sit on a concrete stand and be about 1.2m tall but the stand itself will also have steps on it for making it easy to fill up the Drum on top...I'm going to have to go an unorthodox route for Fresh Water because "Fresh Water" is not exactly a commodity here...so I am going to be buying 20L water drums that is the safest Drinking Water available and see how that goes...stuff from the tap is very nasty here and should never be used for anything at all.

There is 1 company that I know that sells "DI water" but I have had no luck in actually finding it as of yet but if I do I will be buying that stuff and in bulk, depends on how often I need to refill the 250L storage drum, nothing is in direct sunlight so evaporation shouldn't be out of the ordinary, I hope.

EDIT: The new display tank will be a little different, instead of 2 rear corner overflow weirs, I am having a single full length along the back rear wall coast to coast overflow for maximum surface skimming.

Do you buy your RO/DI water? Why dont you have a filter and make your own?

#1 - Their is very little water pressure here.
#2 - Cannot buy RODI filters here.
#3 - Tap Water is so dirty you would be changing filters out weekly/biweekly.
#4 - RODI filters produce a lot of wasted water which wouldn't fly to well with others here...

Seem like all good reasons. lolz

I can only use what I have at my disposal here...

Which is why setting up a full on reef tank just wouldn't happen but why setting up a mantis only system is ideal due to many things being in tandem with their basic requirements.

Due to changes in the tanks design I have removed the concrete stand and made the area where it was all level because a steel stand is being made and it will also make it easier to level the camera tripods along with overall more comfortable to be filming and photographing on.

Reason I changed from concrete stand to steel stand is because of the overall size of everything and the addition of a second tank (sump) because of the overall size of everything if I had of kept the concrete stand the total length of everything would of been 6m long...but with the steel stand I have halved that total length to around 3m total.

The display tank has also been bumped up in size to match that of the sump both Display and Sump are 8ft x 2ft x 2ft (display will be 10cm taller so 70cm total but have internal depth of 2ft because of the coast to coast overflow being 10cm lower then tanks rim).

The coast to coast overflow is quite wide as well to make it easier for maintenance within it (20cm) so the internal dimensions for each half of the display tanks will be 4ftL x 1.5ftW x 2ftH so around 290L each / 76Gals each, more then enough for a giant spearer & smasher in each half.

Back to reality again.

In order to further protect the outdoor system from the elements & unwanted light entering (remember it's all under a large roof and there are 2 large walls in front and behind the tank so its only really the sides that are exposed.

I am having a 'skeleton cabinet' made that will be larger then the entire setup itself which the system will be situated within (minus the Fresh Water Top Off Tank). This cabinet will enclose everything from underneath, the top, the rear, front and sides, with the front having 2 pairs of doors (set for the Display Tank on top of interior tank stand and set for the Sump Tank at the bottom of the interior tank stand).

I've left ample room above the top of the display tank for lighting even though the lighting I use will be film lights only and only utilized when filming/photographing so when not doing anything with the tank itself it will all be very/utterly dark within except for the 2 small LED Refugium lights which the Display Tank won't receive any of anyway due to neatly cut and place board beneath the display tank.

This skeleton stand will also prevent any dust entering the system from wind and in general just add to over protection and give it a cleaner look in the end, because the interior aquarium stand is 240cm long I have made the Skeleton Cabinet a clean 3m long which will allow me to place 20cm wide but 70cm long shelves on either side of the cabinets interior to also store things like media and testing equipment etc.
