My Ultimate Multi Mantis System(s)

A few picture to update "yall" ;).... damn site seems to be down a lot over the past 24-48hrs...

Here is Nicoles compartments substrate base, the new Rics now seated comfortably and have opened up to reveal a "Carpet of Rics" :D exactly as I imagined it and it's already paid off in a few pics of Mantis & Ric together!

Latest addition this was cheap for its quality and size, it is Premium brightness so I have it on the wall, it is distinctly brighter then all my other Standard pale green Rics on the substrate level.

Love this picture :) Nicole has found something "Munch Worthy" within the Rics likely a Stomatella or something similar she is using the Large Hot Pink Ric as cover...

My Premium Ric Wall!

Who says spearers are messy eaters and store everything...look at this small grave yard / clean out from the Leviathans burrow, I awoke the the picked clean remains and even a large Dactyl upon the sand bed near his burrow entrance.

Finally...the latest to soon fall, this sick Bat Fish is also missing an eye, the store just gave it too me seeing as know one was going to buy it even at the $5 price...Minos needs some exercise.

More to come....

Poor batfish.

Kind of sad that the LFS would actually get one in...

From what I have read about them in the past 24hours they seem rather difficult to keep and have a lot of specific requirements...

This one had seen better days but it is now eternally sleeping in the labyrinth of the Leviathan...

The Bat Fish first went to Minos who had great difficulty with the intimidating large size of the Bat Fish, he did impale it but was incapable of bringing it into the his burrow and in the process of "lift n rip", the fish managed to escape from where on Minos wanted nothing to do with it....

However the Leviathan being far larger quickly ended it, I am finding it more and more difficult to capture my spearers on High Speed and I don't know why besides myself being simply to slow...it is really starting to frustrate me the last good High Speed Strike I captured from the Leviathan was back on Wednesday, ‎26 ‎December ‎2012, ‏‎8:25:57 PM....as noted by the videos details, it's a brilliant piece that I have shown many times but never been able to replicate with the Leviathan since then....and it's really starting to get to me. -_-

The advent of getting a TRUE High Speed camera is certainly starting to tickle me...specially since I recently found what looks like a damn good one and for "only" $5,500 a lot less then the $10,000-$50,000 they normally are, this cheaper one is also very user friendly / plug n play / easy to understand.

It would allow me to record in 1,000's of FPS and at HD Resolutions....

Doesn't Dr. caldwell have alot of difficulty catching them as well?

I also recall Sheila Patek mentioning she needed special camera equiptment to even record or see the strikes period.

It's the High Speed in general.

Some cameras available to the public allow for severely limited High Speed recording but some is better then none...

The entire problem exists on the simple basis that these cameras we use at home that CAN record in High Speed can only do so for very very limited short time frames, the Nikon Coolpix can record in HS for 10sec @ 240FPS but the Nikon 1 V2 can record in HS for only 4sec but @ 400FPS...nearly twice as slow.

The TRUE High Speed cameras can typically film for a LOT longer / indefinitely if a suitable hard drive is available.

Our cameras at home can record in "HD" for 30mins to indefinitely this isn't an uncommon thing.

I want that feature but with HS this way I will never miss the strike, this way no human error will be involved with having to press a button right before the strike lands to catch everything in the available recording time.

Not only this but a byproduct of the camera is overall much greater clarity.

As of right now my camera records @400FPS for 4secs and spits it out at 320x240 res.....which I severely enhance through editing to make larger so you get what you see in my videos....

However the TRUE High Speed camera will spit out records IN "HD"! So instead of 320x240, the TRUE High Speed cameras lowest setting is actually 100FPS more then my current camers, so 500FPS but as I said instead of 320x240res...you get 1280x1024 HD.....

Matching resolutions camera to camera
My Camera = 400FPS @ 320x240 Res
TRUE HS = 6,000FPS @ 320x240 Res

That's 15x slower then what you currently see in my videos but the same resolution which ain't that bad as most would agree....but 15x slower O.O....the advent of recording a smasher swinging its dactyl and taring the Oxygen & Hydrogen apart in the water to form the cavitation bubble....is looking more and more achievable :D.

Been working on my next video which I have finally finished.

It covers some of the basics about Stomatopod Anatomy and goes into a bit about what is "beyond" their power, things like Durability, Intelligence, Eye Sight & Personality, I decided to end it with a bit of a "bang" :), but for the majority of the video it is one of the most educational productions I have completed and as much as I would of liked to of put all I know into 1 video...

I don't see all too many sitting through something so long and detailed...not too mention the footage I want to have but have yet to of captured needs to be acquired before something so detailed, either way in the mean time this video is long overdue it is a short....

'Stomatopods - 101' ;) should be uploaded in the next hour or so seeing as it is a bit over 6mins long.

:hmm4::hmm4::hmm4: Look who it is...the one that was thought to be DEAD! (not Tintin sorry) but I have not actually fed this guy in to long to remember so it begs to wonder HOW...SHOCKWAVE the G.falcatus is still alive...not only that but he has changed his body color completely from the dull brown to a lighter overall green!

With the demise of Tintin and "ascension" of Megatron into the predecessors old home...Shockwave too moves up and now into Megatrons old display tank, a refugium far larger then the 4.2L nano Shockwave had...

On a more curious note here is Nicole, she seems obsessed with this spot when not in her burrow, sitting beneath the lowest ledge on the wall which the large hot pink ric sits upon and in between a large cluster of standard rics.

Here is a FCS (Full Compartment Shot) Top Down / Birdseye View of Nicoles Ricordea compartment :D this might actually be finished faster then I expected as I might of found another great premium Ric supplier to finish the wall (only want 6 more).

Substrate close up Top Down View, looks nice, not sure why the lighting is like this and it gives off a false coloration to same of the Ric's like a dull orange...

More to come :D

The latest Video and it is based around a few things like Anatomy and certain features beyond power that make the Stomatopods so special.

Couldn't help myself at the end

My 5 LED fixtures are in Australia :D that I know for sure...

They arrived in Sydney yesterday morning and left just after midnight this morning, it's only a 1hr flight if that...

So I might be lucky enough to get them today :D

If so I'll start to make the Light Stands for them as soon as I get 1 in my hands and attach the cables to see how it all hangs.

Good News the lights just arrived! :D

They are packaged very well, nice and tight with plenty of dense foam!

More to come :D

Just coming up with the best hang rack design....the problem is that the tanks are connected via those pipes I keep mentioning...which is hindering the design of the PVC hanging rack....

has to be a side leg style since it's a "triple" stack of lights, if the legs were behind it would simply fall forward since there is no way to actually fix the legs to the ground...

So legs on the side and there will have to be 4 legs per stand so the pipes for the displays can bypass between the legs...at least for now, something as cheap and simple as this is easy to tare down and rebuild, the pipes will inevitably come off once the overflows come, so I can make a neater/simpler stand for the fixtures.

Well my first DIY LED Fixture Rack is complete and in place it's holding up well and is nice and snug, very well hidden with very minimal things used on it to keep it simple, small and hidden :).

Rather then hang the lights the traditional way I have had to skip half of the hanging kit removing the straight vertical cables, I also shortened the cable I am lifting with my finger, the PVC bar runs between both of these cable loops with it shorter I was able to have it higher off the tank.

The Rack all glued up and painted, going with a single design that is fixed to the stand itself, saving on a lot of time and money in the process, this thing took less then 1hr to make, the PVC is 20mm.

Here you can see it sitting nice and neatly from the front view :) the Rack is effectively hidden all you can see is the horizontal bar threaded between the 2 cable loops and even then you got to look up and under to see that :D.

Heavy Duty Giant Zipties were used to fix the Rack to the Stand, there are 4 just to be sure...it is stuck on there like it was MEANT to be on there, the rack I have confidence will hold the lights lite 2.5kg weight :).

More to come! This is just 1 I need to make 4 more!

Small Update :)

The PVC Rack is holding up well and hasn't moved at all so I am very confident in it's overall rigid design :D!

Also as you may recall me mentioning...these lights come with remotes :D 1 per Fixture and because there are so many I don't want to get confused so each tanks name will have its initials painted on the remote with a white marker pen.

This remote is A-M (Stand A, Middle Tank).

Going to attach these remotes to the stand with velcro that I will stick to both stand & back of remote, giving them a home when not in use to help prevent loosing one.

No word on these Overflows yet...must admit I am a little upset...with the lack of information provided upon payment...I have tried to contact Jeff @ LifeReef a couple times and still no response...All I want is the tracking details...

It's nearly been 2 weeks since payment was made.
