My wood tank build

This is hands down the most interesting thread that I have read on this website yet. Good luck with your tank and I will be tagging along.

we have used felt cabinet door stops for spacers with great success. we did'nt have any problems with the GE silicone leaching crap into the either.

great build. keep the plywood faith!

No need for AGA silicone, its the same thing. No worries.

Great job! dsandfort! I am sooo glad I found this thread! I also found the following post earlier in the thread and I CAN RELATE.
... if it's not strong enough, it will likely be my last home-made tank. Or any tank for that matter. Know what I mean? I swear, my wife had developed occular problems as a result of this build. Her eyes roll around in her head every time she looks at the project. I think she needs to see an optomitrist about it.

hilarious.

I have also built a similar tank. I started two years ago and got all the way to the final glass install. Got consumed by humidity concerns and the project stalled right there until now. I hope to place the final glass in the next couple of weeks. My tank is not nearly the masterful carpentry job yours is though. I am in awe.

GREAT JOB!

Marvelous work you did there ! impressive to say the least. Could you tell me the thickness of the plywood ? And is it a standard quality or special marine-grade plywood ?

Brandi agree's that there is some concern about me being able to recognized that beer bottle from just a fraction of a label but I have always known crap when I see it.

She says that you should have used the excuse that someone with no taste in beer had come over or that someone had vandalized your trash can. But to actually admit that you drank it is pretty darn sad.

Maybe that's the first step to the 12 step program to realizing what quality beer is.

LOL i drink enough beer and alcohol that i would only fuel a fire rather then douse it...

this is a very ambitious and inspirational tank build...i only wish i had the space time a nd money for something like this...i think i would pretty much follow the design to a tee..

Nano reef I know what you mean the only thing to do in Canada is Drink eat get cold and say EH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

ROLmfao:beer: :hmm3:

I might drink another while watching the Barry Bonds Soccer Extravaganza.

XMen- It is 3/4" exterior grade plywood. Nothing very special.

Well, it's rainy and blowy today and the silicone is still setting up and I can't play golf...so I got some work done on the tank room.

There are 4, 20 A circuits just for the tank and another for the rest of the room. I got the exterior wall framed and vents installed. There is 1 outside fresh air intake (diagonal pipe) that will run to the lower corner of the room. There is 1 active exhaust using a fantech fan on a thermostat and variable speed. I also cut in a hvac duct so i can dump AC in to the room in the summer.

I extended the electrical to the dropped ceiling over the actual tank. I'll use these for ballasts so the electrical will be overhead and out of the way.

Plumber comes this week to rough in the utility sink so I can start the drywall on parts of the room. My plan is to paint the inside of the tank next weekend (unless the weather is nice).

great updates, instead of drywall you might want to look into FRP panels. you dont have to paint and prep, also mold and mildew wont be a problem in near future. just a thought

depot has couple different ones, not sure on lowes. its high $28 sheet 4x8 but average out the time spent on labor and materials comes out cheaper IMO. also i had foam insulation all on my roof line through the house, can also be done on walls.

Well, for better or worse, the final interior finish starts tomorrow. Gloss black on all interior surfaces. Pictures to follow. It will be a 2-day process to get the timing down between coats so I don't have to sand. I AM SICK OF SANDING!

Gloss Black..Nice..I have been wanting to price how much more is the dust free mud. I think I might use it, to reduce the dust.
