Mysterious fish deaths are more common now (Flukes)

IFbettas: I've seen flukes fall off my fish within 15 minutes after dosing Prazipro. I'm not familiar with worms in the fish like the white poo you are experiencing. Perhaps that is why the Prazipro say 7-10 day treatment. Perhaps someone can chime in

klasiksb: You can mix Cupramine and Prazipro. Lots of people including myself used them together.

Anyone feel free to post your experiences. I created this thread so everyone can share their experiences, opinions and results.

Great thread! Is Prazipro recommended for internal parasites, or is it better to use Metronidazole mixed in their food? My LFS owner says that he swears by the Metro mixed in the food, and by doing so it is completely reef safe as you can remove anything the fish don't eat. (He has no experience with Prazipro) Any opinions are welcome, thanks.

I am picking up my red sea regal tomorrow and will start the qt process. couple questions. should i treat the qt with the prazipro I have regardless, or wait for symptoms? If I have already treated with prazipro and the fish develops ich, is it safe to treat with Mardel Coppersafe?

thanks.

Most Angels and Butterflies carriy Flukes. You can wait a few days before treating with Prazipro to allow the Regal get accustomed to his Q-tank. Then treat with Prazipro at 1/2 dosage. If the Regal eats well into the next day then treat the other 1/2. If it doesnt eat then perform a water change to get rid of the Prazipro and repeat in a few days. Make sure you shake the Prazipro extremely well as stated before using. Im not sure about Mardel Coppersafe but you can mix Prazipro and Cupramine. In my opinion Cupramine is better and less toxic than Coppersafe

the FW dip saved my fish... im looking for the Prazipro but im having a rough time tracking it down... any ideas?

I purchased coppersafe over cupramine based off some advise I recieved. I was told coppersafe was much more effective. I guess most people opinions will vary. Once the prazipro is in the water, does it stay in there past the 5 to 7 days?

My skimmer still goes crazy past 5 days so I assume Prazipro is still in the water column however I do not know the exact strength after 5 days since there are no test kits for it.

Why hasnt this thread been moved to the fish disease forum? It is a wealth of knowledge and it is in a club forum.

I do not run a skimmer on my qt because it is only meant to house 1 fish for 6-8 weeks. Water changes should be enough.

I suspect I have flukes. I have a 120g SPS system with great water quality but I've had mysterious deaths ever since I set this system up almost a year ago.

I've also noticed cloudy eye on a few of the deceased.

I can set up a QT to treat with but how do I get them out of the tank? Do Flukes inhabit the substrate?

Can I just treat with FW dip and then a week or two with Pazi and then throw them back into the display?

From what I've heard you'd have to let your tank lie fallow for 6 weeks or so and the flukes will die out naturally b/c they will have no food source. You would not have to take out your corals or inverts just your fish (is my understanding).

I bought a Powder Brown Tang and Yellow Tang recently and same thing happened the PBT he ate like crazy and slowly his condition got worse and worse eventually dieing. Now my Yellow Tang has a cloudy Eye reduced appetite and is going down the same path.

I will FW dip the YT tonight but what about the eggs now in my system? I have a mixed reef with LPS Softies and SPS and I don't want to harm the corals by treating the system with Prazipro. No quarantine available either

Any suggestions to save my remaining fish from Flukes? I have a Watchman Goby and a few Damsels.

You don't have to worry about harming your corals or inverts when you dose prazipro. I dosed prazipro in my sps reef a month ago, and nothing happened to the corals at all. Since it is reef safe, I would suggest dosing it in your tank to kill the flukes.

Just watch your skimmer because it will overflow most likely. Also monitor your pH since some people mentioned Prazipro tends to lower your pH.

Where was that research retrieved at. This thread has several people experiences of people who have actually tried it.
