Dennis, i was going to put the tank into the stand today but i will hold off till tomorrow so you and your son and couple helpers from home depot may be able to lift it up...

Finally got my tank on the stand. Dennis, i think you need at least 6 guy at least 6 foot tall to be able to get your tank on the tank :D

Check it out

yeah dude. wait till you see it tomorrow. You will want it even more... Will check out his 1000g fish only tank (It looks like Chinese prison )

Yeah, He shouldn't have any problem with the protein skimmer handling his tank. I try to get him couple alloy mess wheel for him to run in that protein skimmer. ER currently working on the alloy meshwheel which produce over 25lpm on the GenX6000. Should get the same out of the eheim 1262. I can't wait to see that bad boy in action.

Who made that beast of a skimmer?
OT, Steve, whats your MOS? I was an 0313 once upon a time ago....
Cant remember if I asked you this once before somewhere or not?

Nick

Nick, i start as an 0341 (mortarman) then 8541 Scout Snipner, then 0311 during the war (I was a point man), now i work for the Inspector-Instructor Staff handling reserves Marine.

0313? How long ago?

Eighty Morons up!!!

:D

JK

I was in from 93-97. Went over to Mogadishu for abit to assist the UN in their debacle after Blackhawk Down. Got out after 4 to go to school and got into the PLC program with the intention of being a pilot, (the only thing the USMC doesnt let enlisted men do...I dont care what officers think, NCO's lead, we just let them make decisions), I subsequently got hot -n- heavy over a girl who had problems with the whole gone for 6 months every 18 months in peace time as a pilot....so I chose her instead, and of course we broke up not long after. I stumbled into Law Enforcement intending to be a firefighter, (long story...), and met my wife.

Happy ending after all of that. Loved my time in the Corps, and I almost re-enlisted after 9-11, but I wouldnt have met my wife if I had. Funny how things turn out...It worked out better for me this way.

Sorry for the hijack guys....

BTW...who did make that BF Skimmer?

Nick

Nick, The Corps has change so much throughout the years. You can't even use profanity on your jr Marine because that consider verbally hazing. I remember when i first join in 1997 my Lance Corporal kick my behind all the time :D.

Let get back to Dennis build thread :D. The protein skimmer make by Euro Reef. It is 72" tall using 5 Eheim 1262 pumps, 12" OD, 6.5" neck. I can't wait to see that bad boy in action. ER aren't the best but they work very well for your money.

Yeah, things have changed through the years....I saw that happening when I was in. I had hoped common sense had come back after 9-11....

Dennis, What is Er rating that skimmer at, (tank size)? Do you have any plans to mesh mod the impellors or are you just going to leave it stock?

Nick

Nick, let me answer that question for him cuz Dennis still trying to recover from the trip. The protein skimmer rated for 1000g system with heavy bioload (per Jeff). We are waiting on the alloy meshwheel from Euro Reef and will replace the NW. The alloy meshwheel should be available next year in January. I saw the alloy meshwheel in action while i was at ER to pick up the protein skimmer for Dennis. The meshwheel was run on the Genx 4100 pump and pulled 25+lpm

I cant recall what the total system volume for this thing is...quick calculations of the display dimensions puts it at 718 gallons....

Doing the math on the lph rates of the mesh med wheel, it comes to 1500 lph, which is impressive. I'm new to the skimmer lph/scfh numbers and what they mean game, but according to this: Skimmer discussion thread thats a little on the low side for SPS. Or is that 25+ lpm per pump?

Like I said, I'm new to this part of the game, I'm used to thinking in terms of total system turover through a skimmer, not how much air is being pushed through it in a given period of time, so I may be way off base here...as it is I'm tryign to soak up all information that I can.

Nick

Edit...NM, re-reading I see that the 25+lpm was from a single GenX 4100 pump.

 Nick. His protein skimmer currently pulling approx 5000lph with all 5 pumps. If he change to the meshwheel, we are looking at approx 7500lph.

I am not sure the right way to calculate the Gallon on the tank. According to the instruction LxWxH:231 but it is the outside dimension or inside dimension. Because not every tank has the same thickness.

Take my tank for example, it is 96x48x24 1" thick acrylic if calculate with outside dimension it is 480g but inside dimension it is only 411g (big different). Same with Dennis' tank if we go with inside dimension, it should be around 636g.

Ahh...okay....makes sense now.

I would use internal dimensions for accuracy...and just ignore the displacement of water by liverock and critters....for skimmer rating purposes.

Okay so with an internal display volume of 636 gallons for Dennis' tank and following the information from the thread I linked to earlier,(300 lph per 100 gallons of display according to Deltec, 500 lph per 100 gallons of display according to Skimmer Whisperer), the correct sized skimmer for his tank should pull anywhere between 1908 lph, (Deltec reccomendations...6.36 x 300 = 1908) and 3180 lph, (SW reccomendations...6.36 x 500 = 3180).

So even in stock form the skimmer is pulling more than enough air for what is reccomended.

Using Deltec's guidelines that skimmer should be capable of handling a 1600 gallon tank, using SW's guidelines that skimmer should be capable of handling a 1000 gallon tank, just in stock form....

Nice

Nick

Wow Nick, you ain't joking :D. Where did you get all that number? Dennis should be fine with that protein skimmer. I can't wait for my protein skimmer to arrive :D
