Ok so I got my corals today and got them all acclimated on there posts in my tank. In going to wait 24-48 hours before I separate them. Do you folks have a best practice in getting them off the posts and sticking them to my live rock? I just don't want to destroy my new purchase. Thanks!

What kinds of corals did you get? How big are they and how well encrusted? What's your rockwork like?

Depending on the coral, I would suggest leaving it on the frag plug and gluing the plug to your rockwork with epoxy putty. This depends a bit on your rockwork and the overall visual look of the tank. In a tank with non-porous rock, a frag plug sticks out and looks ugly. In a tank with porous rock where you can partially hide the plug by putting it down in a hole or nook, it's not a big deal.

I got a torch, blasto, zoos, mushroom and favia. They are rather small, but the posts are quite large and the seem to be pretty crusted on. Although each is on a small piece of rock I feel like I could scrape them off that and mount them to my live rock. Hopefully is my answer haha

I take dikes and snap the post off. Then put some super glue on my finger and rub it on the rock where I want the coral, then put a glob of glue on the plug where I cut the stem and press it to the spot I covered with glue, hold it there for a bit and all is fine. Remeber always use super glue jell... Using this method a coral can moved if necessary.

It it's a coral that will grow over the disc or will be left on the sandbed, you can break the plugs off of the discs and then just mount the disc.

The torch I might take off of the plug/disc and glue directly to rock work. The blasto and favia depend on placement. I'd leave them on the disc if you were going to keep them on the sand bed, or take them off and glue them directly to your rockwork.

For the mushroom and zoas, I'd break the plug off of the disc and glue the disc to rock work. If there are a lot of zoas, I might even break the plug off, then use a hammer and screw driver to split the disc, then glue one half to rock work and the other to a frag plug to make a frag to trade :)
