Need High End Skimmer advice

I disagree. If it's just about mixing bubbles with water, why not just use an air pump with an air stone in a bottle.

As R e e f Builders proved, you can build a $1 skimmer out of a water bottle and have it perform well. Wish I could post the link but RC won't let me.

There is absolutely NO reason to spend $1500 on a skimmer. I guarantee that a $1500 skimmer will not outperform a $500 skimmer that is rated for the same size system.

Science has proved this. Skimmers only pull out 30% of the TOC in an aquarium. The bigger, more expensive skimmer may pull the TOC out quicker, but it will NOT pull out more.

if you are interested in a High End skimmer that would fit well for a 150 gallon tank, ATB 840 v2.0 Protein Skimmer, great skimmer for the money and the new pump upgrade, is very low wattage and skim's like a beast. The BK supermarin 200 would be way overkill for a 150.

I have a bad cold right now So I putting this away till my head clears.

I am thinking to just keep Euroreef CS8-1 as back up and look in Alpha 200. I am uneasy with 23 watt skimmer pump when ER had 90 what pump for same rating.

It is clear 20-30% of DOC gets skimmed. What the design does is provide stable performance, ease of maintenance, and different rates of removal. I will not get into plastic thumb screws or energy hog designs like Bullet 2 etc.

Why couldnt you? Many LFS do just this. Mine does...

It is just mixing air with water....

Do you guys use air pump driven skimmers into a bottle? Doubt it.

What would get my business is something like a ATB or Vertex clone using Eheim pump.

The double bottle approach is something you will see on breeder tanks and fish only displays. Airstone are in a way low powered bubble plate with low turbulence. Air stones clog and are difficult to produce stable results long term.
