Need your input on this LED from Ebay

The eBay posting has been removed. I have the same tank and used to have the same light. I recently upgraded to rapid LEDs 36 premium LEDs on a 6x20 heatsink.

FYI, I'm also debating which way to go. One of the options I am looking at is the dimmable LED kits from http://www.aquastyleonline.com/categories/DIY-LED-Lighting/DIY-Dimmable-LED-Kits/. The up-front cost for them is less than rapid LED and might make sense if you will upgrade the lights every couple of years. Which is very likely considering the speed at which the LED technology evolves today.

If you search on RC for aquastyle online you will find numerous threads & posts with good details.

One of the main reason I went with rapid is because they're only a few minutes away from me so anything I needed I just stop by and get it, instead of waiting in the mail for stuff. Plus they have great customer support, they literally walked me thought the whole process since I have no electrical experience. Turned out to be pretty simple.

Hey Ramon, I have a couple of suggestions:

1. If you have not read it yet, review this thread: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2110092

2. If you haven't already, visit stores or other hobbyists who are using panel-type LEDS. You may find that you don't like the output. I personally don't like the "mirror-ball" effect that multi-point LED panels produce.

The reality is that it's hard to tell what you're actually getting (see link above for examples) with the eBay LEDs. In terms of DIY, re: RapidLED. I have not used their products, but I only hear good things, and the added bonus is that they are local. IIRC, they used to be in Oakland, then moved to a larger facility.

Thanks to all your input. I decided to hold off on LED and per your advise I will research more before jumping on it. I appreciate it much.

Hey, I haven't purchased the same light as you but I do have chinese, 120w led lights. They have 3w x 55 leds but they only take 120w (ie, the leds don't run at full power). So far all my corals are loving it! I have a friend who has a very small store and he's ordered close to 20 of the same type of units so far to cover all his tanks..

leds are experimental, this is just my experience.

Also, if your tank is only a 57g, you may want to look into the gu10 leds.. just do a google and a thread from another forum should come up..

I can take pics of my leds and their color if you'd like. 6500k in leds isn't 6500k in halides. It looks more like 10k
