New 120g Frag Tank

Still not sure totally sure what it is, but pretty sure they're not Dino's. Dinoflangelates are snotty and form long golden brown strands with bubbles in them where's yours look more like a meadow of fuzzy tufts. Lol

Dino's I had in my tank at one point. Seemed like I got them after water changes.. I only got them in high flow and high light areas.

It seems like your options are to either remove the rocks and do a 50/50 peroxide/RO dip for 10 min and rinse with RO then put back in the tank.
Or dose hydrogen peroxide 0.5ml to 1ml per gal till it's gone. (Up to 2 weeks)
Or add some Mexican turbos to try to eat it all. I've read tuxedo and fuzzy chitons urchins might help as well.

The first option would be more effective, but not the most practical if you have corals encrusted to the rocks..

Good luck!

Thanks Sam! It definitely doesn't have air bubbles in it. And it is not slimy or "snotty" as I have read in other descriptions. I have been dosing 1ml/10g H2O2 for over a week, but the full dose once per day instead of halving it twice a day. I'm hesitant to try to remove the rock and dip in H2O2 because it would require a huge amount of hydrogen peroxide to cover those rocks for a bath.

Justin at UA confirmed it. :( I manually toothbrushed the tank and siphoned what I could out. The tank has been boxed up for three days lights out. Good times.

What'd he confirm?

What if you take the rocks out and blow torch it. (not the coral) Lol Then rinse.

What do you think it came in on??

He confirmed it is dinos :(

I'm not 100% convinced, but I am leaving in 4 days for a 2 week vacation, so I want to do all I can to eradicate whatever it is before I leave.

Blowtorching the rocks is the next step.

Muriatic acid would almost be more fun haha

Yeah, muriatic acid was what I used before I set the tank up to clean the rock. It was like a science fair project.

I finished up three days lights out and it really improved! I'll try to get some pics up tonight.

All in all it definitely worked. Plus all the corals are showing excellent PE and color. Can totally recommend three day black out, wet skimming and H2O2 for dinoflagellates.

Leaving Saturday morning for Tenerife for two weeks. Eager to see if the gains were more than temporary.

Great news!

You still have the blue plague though.. lol

I'm referring to you blue pictures. [emoji14]

Hoping it's all gone when you get back!
I want pictures from your trip too. Lol

Hahah.... I missed the blue part on the first read.

I was like "OH NO DINOS" and the Kool Aid guy busted through the wall and said "OH YEAH! Try this for DINOS!"

So yeah, that blue coloration should go away after the carbon takes care of the Great Bluedini Kool Aid I put in there. The fish love it and it has Vitamin C!

Or alternately, if Santa gets me a DSLR with a decent white balance. You know one or the other....

Begger's can't be choosers! Lmao

Great idea! Why don't you try some lemon lime Kool-Aid after your done with the great bluedini.
This should act as a gel filter correcting the blues! ;)

My wife has a DSLR, but my phone takes just as good a picture and can zoom better close up. I want a nice macro lens for the DSLR though - but they aren't cheap..

How do you deal with the blue using your cell phone? I bought the Camera+ app because it has a controllable white balance, but it only goes up to 8000K. With the ReefBrites that tank is probably at +22000K. I have no issues taking pics of my other tanks. One is metal halide + T5s and the other is 6 T5s. The new tank is just crazy blue no matter what I do.

I bet orange Kool Aid would work! I have some orange safety glasses and they definitely cut the blue back.

Is there any way to turn the blues down and whites up?

My tank is 50/50 blue/white at 100% both channels in this pic (screenshot).

All I have to do is adjust the exposure (sun tab on the side of the focus) depending on how bright it is and they come out looking great and true to color.
My phone has two modes: widescreen - 16mp or standard at 21mp, but I can't tell a difference so I just use widescreen since it fills the screen.
I don't edit any of the pics, just shoot and upload to photobucket and post. Lol

Generally 15% blue, 75% white will yield good color. Of course this is easier said than done if you don't have LED's..

Really nice macro pics at 4x zoom and phone in the tank. Lol

Pretty good for a cell phone!

Nice! That tank is all T5s and they are almost exclusively blue or Actinic :(

So I think taking decent non-blue shots will be a challenge.

Stuck in the Philadelphia airport on Christmas Eve. Plane doesn't board for another five hours. Good times!

What about an auxillary picture light? Lol
Some sort of white light that you can easily put above the tank that's small and easy to move around just for taking pictures.
I have no idea what I'm alluding to here. Haha Maybe some sort of white LED strip light like a current USA orbit marine light or the cheap Amazon light Jorge bought for his new frag tank a few months ago - ask him. Lol
