New 6095

In the next few weeks I will be moving my tank and I am wondering if I should wait to buy the 6095. I currently have a 6055 and an mp10. I want to get rid of the mp10 due to noise and need your opinion on either adding another 6055 or the new 6095.

My tank will be 36x18x18 with a corner overflow. The tank will be barebottom with mostly sps and a few chalices thrown in. I am wondering if I should do 2 of the new 6095s and sell my 6055, or 1 of each, or just get another 6055? For my tank dimensions and coral requirements what would you recommend? I would also like to keep it to two pumps in-tank and the return line. I dont want to put any more pumps in the tank. Also, whatever my pump configuration I need there to be good water movement on the barebottom to keep detritus suspended. Thats why I was thinking of the 6095s in place of the 6055s; I thought they would provide a better undertoe than the more direct 6055s.

6095 flow will cover about 3ft by 3ft, it is very wide and very diffuse, 6055 is 4ft by 18" and more focused. For the animals, 6095 is likely better, but for spot focusing on a detritus or algae problem, 6055 is likely better. One of each is likely a better solution with that in mind, especially since some SPS may prefer a more focused, stronger flow.

Are the prop blades wider on the 6095? It looks as if the flow director is wider/shorter on the 6095 than the 6055 and the motor voltages are slightly different. There's "a lot" of speculation that the 6095 is simply a 6055 with the "modified" front housing that seems to be popular here.

I hope there's more to it then that, especially for the development time behind the 6095.

It has a bigger propeller, it is slightly more of a modification to the 6055 than the speculation, it is a different prop housing, bigger prop, and slightly different coil, the windings are different to handle the higher wattage and produce the speed necessary.

I'm working on setting up a 150, 6'x18"x28.5"
I have 2 6055's, I was planning to get the 6095's as well. I was thinking the 2 6055's one on each end in wave mode, an the 2 6095's on the back panel for additional random flow front to back. Tank will be mixed, def lots of lps and some sps.

It would work for LPS, SPS would have to be limited and near the pumps to get enough flow. Honestly 2 6105 is likely be better.

I'm upgrading powerheads on a 150 so this is just the answer I was looking for! Now to figure out which controller I need...

Would 2x6095 work in a setup for sps with size 32" long 22" wide and 30" tall. The pumps can only be fixed to one side (the 22" side)...

It would, I am not sure what the result would be as the flow would only spread out more and any increase in volume of flow would be nominal. The 6095 has a different motor which adds 180 rpm more and has a different coil which can handle a much bigger prop, a 6095 prop is closer in size to a 6105 prop than a 6055 prop, 6055 is 38mm, 6095 is 42 and 6105 is 45.5 so a 6095 uses a much bigger prop spinning substantially faster.

A quick question on the 6095, I have seen many pictures and it shows the pump without a protective grating on the front. Does the pump come with this grating?

It does include the grating, you can choose to use it or not. The first 50 pumps are expected in 2 weeks, with a much larger shipment following in a couple weeks. Marine Depot, Champion Lighting and Premium Aquatics have all placed orders as have many LFS's.
