New Anemone... Haddoni? ID help. Super excited!!

Finally got my anemone (2nd next to my gbta but you know)... my brother in Miami bought this and air freighted it to me. Anemone got here at 10:30A, obviously left work for an "emergency", and started acclimating. SO sticky I could not believe it. I was using my turkey baster to move it with current (trying to avoid touching/aggravating it), and it barely brushed the baster and almost got sucked into it so I freaked and disconnected the baster before doing damage. They sold it as a multi colored carpet, so I am not exactly sure what it is, would love to hear from everyone on an ID. Mouth looks pinched, dug itself immediately (see pic below). Also 3rd pic is the clown who now has a cool new home! Let me know what you think!

Can you take some pictures of its foot and under the edge of it.

Looks like a Haddoni, but want to see a few things first.

Best I could do, it sandwich'd on the glass. I didnt realize its so common...to me it looks bada**. So I am very happy with my purchase.

I thought your brother 'purchased' it for you. ;)

Looks very nice.

I agree it is a Haddoni.

I really like the coloring.

Is the clown investigating it?

LOL my brother technically purchased but he still expects repayment, shipping was crazy.

Thank you for the confirmation you two. My two lfs could not find one for a few months. In Miami, he has no issue finding anything. Coloring looks great, when it opens a bit more il update with pics. Clown is already sleeping in it! He said screw the bta lol.

Glad you are happy with it I always remember my first carpet. You will get hooked :)

Btw that saddleback clownfish is my most hated as they most often kill the hosting Nem by going completely inside the mouth and agitate the Nem and eventually cause stress and in most cases die. If you like your carpet a lot get rid of that clown.

Dont even remember those comments about them on that thread... Well if I see things going south I suppose I will remove one or the other then. Thanks

Sure... LOL.. I knew I saw a comment about it. So I looked it up. Then I saw your name right after that post.

I am always candid, you showed me that I was like was that me?? Haha.

Thanks for the advice and ID. I really like it and hope my clown does not destroy it.

You are welcome. Good luck. Keep an eye on it.

I came across a different thread where about the same thing. The OP said the clown disappeared. I guess the Haddoni got mad and had dinner.

Ah... well in that event, I would not be upset with the anemone for defending itself!

But yes, I will keep an eye out and update this thread accordingly.

Wow, those are some harsh words. I have had two saddlebacks for the last four years with a bta which has turned into four bta's. Never once have the two clowns caused any problems or distress to the original bta or the three babies.

Harsh? I'd say more so words of caution, this isn't an isolated case with these clownfish.

I think it's also a general warning to others who may be reading this thread and are considering the same nem and clownfish combination. The caveat is that individual clownfish have their own personalities. Some are more destructive than others.

BTAs and carpet nems, specficially haddoni, are not comparable. BTAs can ball up or wrap their tentacles around their mouth to protect themselves. Haddoni live in the sand and can only bury themselves for protection, but oftentimes in our tanks the sand bed isn't deep enough for them to completely cover themselves.

I just think that negative caveat tends to label them no different than pitbulls are negatively labeled. But at any rate, lucky me. I must be blessed with two very attentive and caring clowns. When shrimp and fish pieces are too big for them to eat, they actually take their pieces to the closest bta and stand guard while they're being digested.

I wonder if their gentler disposition will transfer to their babies? Is that possible? If that ever happens of course.

Well based on the above. I also hope my solo clown is nice to its new home lol. I will continue to post and keep people updated. Although mine is obviously just one case, it can help the arguement on either side with time.

To the point about sand. Right now its in about 3 " of sand while itself is probably 5" in diameter. Do you think I should move some sand over to make it feel more comfy?
