New Anemone

I have been feeding it mysis and squid every other day. It is eating great. Looks good in the display tank. My clowns dove right in and don't appear to be stressing it out. It ate a couple pieces of squid tonight as well. I currently have it on a flat rock on the sand bed. I will likely move it upward as it colors up. Pics to come tomorrow.

That's great news! I prefer to feed my anemone's freeze dried jumbo krill. Works great and they love a snack! Look forward to seeing the new pics.

Betcha 5 dollars that it is a Magnifica instead of a Crispa.:)
A picture of the column would settle this quickly

After second guessing myself and going with the Crispa verdict, I'm about 99% certain I have a severely bleached Mag... Here are the updated pics with a bit of SA Fancy White clown love... :D

How much you guys think I should be feeding this guy? Quantity and Frequency?

You can tell it is a LOT brighter in my main display than in my refugium, but the Anemone doesn't seem to mind and has expanded to about 14-15" at least on its new larger rock... :)

Yep, I too am going to take back my original ID. And BTW, that Magnifica is making a very nice recovery.

BonsaiNut,

I WON, I WON

Randy,

That is the strangest color Magnifica column I have ever seen. It looks like he is doing very well and start to recover the zooxanthelae in his tissue.
The pattern of your Ocellaris is unusual also. Can you show pictures of the fish pair?

Minh ~ I'll take more pics of the clowns for sure... May not happen until next weekend, at least not with my DSLR... I'll try and shoot some pics with my phone though... ;)

The base seems to have a blueish hue... Hoping I can get this thing to fully recover so we can see what it actually looks like... :D

Ate a scallop tonight...

Yes, based on the column and how it's attached I'm going with magnifica. And I definitely agree that it's progressing nicely. Seems as though the bleached mags and gigs have been recovering quite well lately. Has someone figured out that bleached anemones (well, just bleached gigs and mags) seem to travel better than healthy ones? I doubt it, but something is working!

My theory on that is that they've been in transport/unfavorable conditions longer and have survived through the crappiest of circumstances... So once they are in our tanks they are more likely to rebound... The ones that come in all colored up and looking good just haven't had a chance to die yet... Just a theory, but I'm rolling with it... :lolspin:

My thinking is that upon collection, holding and transport, some anemones got infected and died quickly. If not infected they live but stressed and poor environment cause them bleached if they in transit for very long.

There are non bleached anemone that doing well also. I think these guys are not infected and did not stay in transit or LFS long thus did not get bleached from stress. They do well also. At least the bleached anemone survived the initial phase and will do well if we take proper care of them

Well, here's a quick video... The Mag loves to be absolutely pounded by flow... Seems to expand the most when my MP40's are on full blast... Hopefully you can see the clowns and their patterns, though the male plays shy...

Coming up on 3 weeks in my care... Eats like a hog... Continues to color up... Starting to hold itself up more often as well... I think it is regaining its strength... :D

Nice, did you diffuse your halides during its introduction into your tank. I find that most of these creatures benefit from a slow introduction to our lighting. The creatures spend a week or two at the minimum under no or crappy lighting. Then, you bring them home and blast them with 250 watts of 14k - 20k light. I've never personally read anywhere to slowly introduce them to your lighting, but I find that it gives them a greater chance of survival.

I didn't diffuse the lighting at all... However, I did start it out in my refugium in indirect light... I then moved it to my display at the bottom of the tank... Two days ago it started "dancing" where it would lift its foot and try to find a better place to put it... It was starting to expand well beyond the rock that I had it on... The rock it was on was about 7"x10"... It hasn't colored up as quickly as I would like to see, so I thought I would move it up to directly under my MH... I also put it atop a 12x12" piece of shelf I had... Been in place now for a couple of days and has not moved a cm...

The purple tips is going to be beautiful. IMO, your anemone is of highly unusual color, and beautiful too.

Thanks Minh! I'm liking how its progressing... Seems to be a lot happier higher up on the new piece of shelf... :D Last update for a little while... Headed to Ft. Worth for 10 days or so... Hate going out of town for an extended period of time... My wife has become somewhat nifty and handling any problems that may arise, but that doesn't stop her from complaining about doing so! ;)

Been a month or so since my last update... Snapped some pics with my DSLR, but haven't had the chance to upload them. Figured I'd take a quick pic with my phone to share the progress it has made... Cheers!

Sorry so blue. Not the best white balance on my HTC.
