New anemone

Hi i am new on here and would like to ask for advice if possible,
i have had my tank for 1 year and felt like a new challenge, so i purchased an anemone from my lfs, i acclimatised the bag in my tank for one hour then slowly over about 2 hours i gradually changed the water, eventually she went in, she stuck to the side of the tank for a while and then slid to the bottom, and just sat there, is she dying, i have tryed to gently move her on to a rock a bit higher and off the sand bed, i did water tests this am,
amm less then 1, nitrate <10 and nitrite 0, the ph is about 8.4,
is there anything else i can do fer her, i have attempted to feed her but she wasnt interested, any help would be invaluable,
i dont want to be responsible for her dying,

I think everyone will need a little more information to offer advice:

1. What kind of anemone is it? If you don't know the name, post a picture. If you can't post a picture, at least describe it.

2. What kind of lighting do you have?

I think that acclimatization period was a little long (esp. the hour in the bag with no water going in), but maybe something else is going on. Also, anemones will generally move to where they want to be, so I think it is probably better not to disturb it unless it's in danger.

I don't think anyone can help much more without more information.

hi, i think its a green bubble tip but not too sure, it has green tips the tenticles are deflated, the main colom is purple, but shes just laying there, she does move her tenticles alot ill post a pic in a min, the lighting is 2x 150watt mh, although im still a bit unsure of how much it needs timewise,

Sorry, IMO that anemone is headed for the great reef tank in the sky.

The yellowish flesh on the upper right appears to be dead/decaying. The white area on the left apopears to be healthy, but I'm having trouble orienting your anemone - that appears to be the foot area, which would mean your anemone is laying face down on the substrate (never a good thing).

IMO, you should try flipping the anemone over, so it's mouth faces up. If the flesh in that yellowish area starts to come off in chunks when you do so, pull the anemone out, it's dead. If the anemone stays together, you can leave it in (for now).

we have turned it over to reveal the same the other side, imo it looks as if i have 2 joined together like 2 feet, the otherside is also yellowing, the tenticles are still moving quite alot, ill get another pic of the current position, to be honest it looks awfula dn i cant see it making it but also im not the kind to hit the fish on the head just in case he could have made it, i hope that makes sense, i spoke to the lfs and they where quite forward with giving me a refund, the only critism is that they think it may have been aclimatising for 2 long, i personally think he was too rough removing it maybe that should have told me something.

It looks like a H. magnifica. Not an easy anemone to start with. It sure looks like a goner but you never know. Good luck.

i thought thats what it was, after most of the day on the net, lfs told me at was an atlantic anemone, obviously didnt know either, i also read it was one of the hardest to keep, makes me feel a little less bad, may take up the lfs on that refund, thanks for all the advice guys

Did you throw it away yet or are you going to see if it makes it. If its a Ritteri, then I doubt it will make it. Sorry.

well i got up this morning and comdemned it, it was still moving slightly but still looked like a pile of mush, i turned on the lights and less then 10 minutes later its started inflating, and looks really healthy tell me what you think of the pic, i have to give it a chance now!!

Well, it looks better than before. And as I said earlier, you don't need to give up until the anemone begins to fall apart. If that happens, use a cup or bowl to scoop the anemone out, otherwise it will probably disintegrate before you can get it out of the tank.

thanks for your faith, again its still moving, one thing i have noticed today is that it has a white looking smoke coming from the center of the white bit, i cant see if its the mouth, yesterday i saw its mouth when i turned it over and the mouth was tightly shut, ive read thats a good sign, my clarkii clown keeps looking at it and gives it the odd poke, initally it stayed clear,

hi im running a wavy sea wave maker set to 6, i have found this pretty good, i put in an airstone on thursday just to give it a little more lower down the tank, the anemone is not sat in a high flow area.

if this dies will it wipe out my fish, we started simple with a maroon clown, then bought a clarkii, neon damel and 3 blue damsels, nothing seems to phase these fish. i also noticed since using this forum i have a considerable amount of aiptasia, the problem with these are that i have some nice mushrooms id hate to lose living on the same rock, can i kill the aiptasia without killing the rest? i have read about joes juice and boiling water, are there any clean up crew or fish that might eat them?

Peppermint shrimp have worked well for me, others have had no luck with them.

Hope your anemone is still hanging in there! A question about your clowns to stray from the subject slightly - you have a maroon and a clarkii in together - how do they get along - im curious about mixing clowns as it is generally not done but is said to be possible in some cases ....?
