New Australia Harlequin Tusk

Yesterday he stayed in that same position, as in the pic, for pretty much all day.

When the lights go out, and moon lights come on, then he comes out and swims around.I guess he feels safer to swim around when its dark ?? Very weird behavior..never had a fish do this...
Might be better to reduce 'daylight' timing until he is more settled... I have added very small live crabs to induce feeding with previous HTs.

Try some fresh squid, they really love it and it may bring him around.

This is my one, a couple of years ago

Wow, Great looking Aussi !

I am thinking of getting a Tusk tomorrow. There is one at the LFS that have been there for the last month. 3 inches for 100.00. Another LFS have one coming in tomorrow. Hope smaller. If everything goes well I think I will pick the smaller of the two
This one will go into my 320 gal tank. I ad one for many years in my 450 g tank in the past. I really love this fish. The eliminate the rather large snail population in my tank but leave the rest of the animals alone.

Indo or Aussie? Either way, $100 for a juvi 3" seems too high.

Mine eats everything including flake food. Small snails may get him eating. Mine goes crazy when I toss in handfuls of Ilyanassa obsoleta i catch at the beach. Mine is define try more active at night and hardly see him during the day.. hopefully watching the other fish eat will teach him soon enough

New Australia Harlequin Tusk

ben jammin, How about a pic of your tank ? You know we love to see pics :)

Question: Was the goby in the tank first, or added after your Harlequin ?

Sorry Goreef, I've been traveling and haven't checked the forum in a few days. Here's a picture of my tank - taken with my phone, so sorry for the blurry fish:

How is your tusk doing? Started eating yet? So far everything you've described is consistent with my experience, even the swimming only at night. Like I said, it took nearly a month for him to get comfortable and start eating, but eventually he did and he's been doing great ever since.

Oh, and the goby was in the tank long before the tusk. I've got another in there too, an orange striped shrimp goby. He seems to be smarter than the watchman and bolts for his cave whenever the tusk or triggers get near.

It is an Indo. The price is one of the reason I did not pick him up.

Is Australia specimen more colorful? I know that the Grey blue color on the hind third of the Australia Tusk. How about the orange? Is the band brighter orange?

Anybody with clear picture of an adult Australian and an adult Indo-pacific Tusk

The indos oranges and blues aren't nearly as bright and colorful, the Aussy will have very bright orange and blue and a pink/red margine at the tip of the tail. 100$ for a 3" juv Australian would be a steal... They go for 250$ on DD that size and 2" are 180$

I would also say get the Australia one. More colorful..and hardier...They do cost more.
I bought mine from Divers Den. He is 4" paid $239.00.

Dmorty217,
I saw that picture. That is not a fair comparison. The Indo-pacific is a juveniles while the Australian is a full adult.

What makes you believe that's a juv indo and a adult Aussy in the picture? That's really the color variations in the two. That picture is a pretty good representation of the differences in the two.

I'm still on the fence about mine. Came from QM as an aussie, so I trust that it is... but it's small, and looks very "indo" to me....

I haven't seen any adult indo and juvi Aussie for as long as I can remember. I had a juvi indo and it was a very slow grower. I have an adult Aussie one and am really glad with the colors. Here are what I can find online for an one to one comparison.
