Hi,

I got this birdnest frag from my friend's tank who had it under 250w MH pheonix it was in the middle of his tank. So I took it and placed right under my 150w MH and it bleached 2 days later ! the reason I placed it right under the 150w is because i thought since its under 250w it would need much light.I guess I was wrong. Any way as you can see in the photo there are still some polyps alive and I have moved it in the middle of the tank. the bleaching stopped but wanted to know is there a chance for it to recover ?

it looks like theres a slim chance of recovery, but birdnests are pretty hardy so i could be wrong. hopefully it'll be fine

If there is a polyp there is a chance. I have had corals come back from a worse state. Pic looks like it is dying from the base up. Not light shock, but could be wrong.

Even though your lighting has less intensity the spectrum may be different. Always acclimate by starting the coral off at the bottom or sides of your tank, or moving your lighting higher above the tank. Another good way of acclimating is by using several pieces of window screen above the tank and removing each piece every few days. hth

Thanks guys for the comments.

Losthere, Thats a quiet an observaition ...I used super glue gel to glow it from the base and never touched it afterwards. I believe if its a light shock it should be the top since it was actually the closest part to light ???

+ 1 my favorite method this allows you to place the coral in it's permanent place and eliminates constantly moving the coral which can cause it to stress (brown out/ bleach out).

that is tissue loss and not bleaching, but as long as you see some polyps/tissue left, it can grow back. that happened to me just moving a large colony from one tank to another. it grows fast, but I can't say they are hardy, and is quite sensitive.
you can clip off one of those branches with tissue and mount it to another location.
