New Bubble Tip Anemone. Questions!

I purchased a bubble tip anemone for my 57 gal tank two days ago. I have a pair of Ocellaris clownfish which don't even care about the anemone.
He seems to shrink up when the light is on. When I turn out the light he opens up. I have the anemone situated about 1/3 down from the top of the aquarium. The aquarium is 24 1/2 inches high.
I have a sunpaq (2) 150 M.H. Lights which is on legs. He seems to not like the light. Why does he open up when the lights are out. Then shrink when the lights are on.
I was also wondering what to feed the anemone. The store told me to filter feed him with marine snow once a week. I feed my reef fish P. Shrimp once a day.
Any suggestion to his likes and dislikes?
Appreciate Feedback.
Thanks

It may take a while for this anemone to get comfortable in it new home. Don't be surprised if it moves around until if finds a place it likes. Secondly, there are no guarantees that your clowns will host in it, only time will tell.

I feed my BTAs silversides. They like meaty foods. Like stated above, your anemone is likely just getting acclimated to it's new home.

I just got one last week as well, and it seems to be holding steady in an area it feels comfy in. It still hides from full lighting, but it does get some in the hole it hangs out in. Each day for the last 4 or 5 it's come out a little more and stayed out a little longer.

I got mine from a local reefer who had his under MH, but he runs 10ks and we run 20, it looks like ours is taking time to adjust to the differen spectrum and the tank.

The FAQ for clowns and anemone is a very good starting point for new nem owners. It near the top of this forum. Another good place for bta specific info is www.karensroseanemones.com. She's been saving and caring for bta's for a while and has shared her experiences as well as pictures so you can see what she's talking about.

It's a very good idea to check out the animals you want before you buy them, you can't always trust your LFS to give you accurate info. It won't hurt to check out their care at this point, there may be answers to questions you never knew to ask :)

Good luck!

Ya...so ,
The light is on, my anemone's ( that i just got ) tentacles aren't out. Just let it get aclimated?

You're welcome for the link.

We're probably at the same point, where patience is our biggest asset. Sometimes it takes these guys a little while to get acclimated. We're on day 9, but we've been seeing steady progress so I'm trying not to worry.

I can't see most of my nem, mostly just tentacles. So I've just been watching the condition of the tentacles. They're a good shape and size which makes me think she's doing okay.

Again, I wish you luck :)

Wanted to let you know that P. Shrimp. Is frozen PE MYSIS shrimp.
I had to move my anemone to my other tank.
He only came out when the lights were out.
He moved all over the tank. Last night is was between the back of the tank and logged into a rock.
Well I moved him to the top of the rock this morning. He then started to move again down toward my other corals. I took him out and moved him into my 55 gal tank. Lightning is not as strong. I have an orbit with six bulbs. The tank is not as high as the 57 gal tank.
Right after I put him on a rock, my maroon clown went to him.
The clown is hosting in the anemone. Hope he is happy their.
The clown keeps working on him trying to get him to expand.
I know one thing my maroon clown is happy.
Only have one zenia at the other end of the tank. He can walk all he wants now.

Wild clowns seem to host faster than tank bred (evolution?) My wild hosted in about 3 seconds, my buddies perc had an anemone that took up half the tank (huge BTA in a 20g) and it took him about 9 months to finally host

I've got a similar problem. I bought a bta last week and he's hiding behind the rocks. sometimes he pops out a little but usually he just hides.
I've been feeding him silversides and he's eating so I guess he's gonna be ok

It looks like your nem may be bleached a bit, that's probably why it's hiding from the light. It's a bizarre thing, the light will help them regain their zooxanthellae, but too much lighting and they'll hide from it. I think the advice for bleached nems is about the same regardless of the type (if I'm wrong, hopefully someone sees this and corrects it). It needs regular feedings (the zooxanthellae it lost was its primary food source) until it regains its zoox., good water conditions, and proper lighting.

Usually they move around when they're unhappy with something in their current location, whether it's the flow, the lighting, the rocks, etc... hopefully it can find a spot it likes soon.

A good site to check out that's dedicated to btas is http://www.karensroseanemones.com/
Good luck!
