im about to get a carpet nem for my 30 gallon. i heard it likes sandy bottoms which i have but i dont want it to roam around and kill off my other corals. any suggestions?

Haddoni is a sand dwelling anemone. They prefer to bury their foot at the base of a rock at the sand rock interface. I've seen and read this, but don't have haddoni personally. There are some frequent posters here who can answer any other questions you might have about the care of this species. I do know they can pack a strong sting, and though they don't wander around much once they are happy in a location, they have been known to eat fish on occasion. Furthermore, haddoni don't require the very high water flow that gigantea prefers and are not as demanding in terms of light intensity.

thanks for all the info what i was planning on doing was trying to place the guy in a spot where there is alot of room on the sand and fencing him off until he stays. my other option was putting all my corals on like a frag rack or so. so they dont get stung?

What kind of fish do you have?i have a haddoni for 2 weeks now and it only moved once also i've lost 2 fish i belive it was dinner for the carpet also get ready to be moving things around because once they setle in they will expand.

And expand..and eat all fish in a small tank...be careful. I had a Clarke Clown grab an ocsillaris and feed it to his carpet once ! I also watched as my green clown Gobi swam right into the hole of death...just like that...gone! Psycho fish.
Carefull...actually I think mine was a carpet saddle? :fish2:

Think s/he meant that their anemone is a "saddle" carpet, which is an old common name for a Haddoni.

jmore510 --- do you have another tank available ? A 30 gallon is borderline for a Haddoni, and it most likely will outgrow it. Also, given Haddonis track record of eating fish, I would be tempted to only keep a pair of clown in there.

Aaaahhhh. That makes more sense. I don't think I've heard it referred to as a saddle carpet but have heard saddle nem. I didn't do the long division.

Think the only reason I remembered was because when I bought my first Haddoni (( 10+ years ago )) it was sold as a saddle carpet.

I guess my age is showing? Yep, back in the day, we called'em saddle carpet anemones, because of the saddle like folds they make. Kind of like when space-time is represented as a rubber sheet with degenerate white dwarfs stars arranged along a periphery in such a way that the gravity waves and wells resemble a saddle and so...:worried: I think I need some sleep!

I have a 75 gallon but it has only been in service for about 2 months the fish I have in my 30 gal is 2 clowns a orange spotted goby and a cleaner shrimp

Then I wouldn't be too concerned about it outgrowing it, when it does your 75 should be ready.

I wouldn't be surprised if you end up losing the orange spotted goby -- I have only lost 2 fish to my haddonis, and one was a yellow watchman goby.

Here is a nice skimmer for the 29.

Or if you think that is too big, here is a shorty
