New Chrysopterus!

Very nice pictures.

Glad to see imgur allows a gallery/album feed post.

How are things going?

Well as you can see the clowns are still very pale and washed out looking. Their new tank is basically blacked out on 3 sides, and I'm going with a whiter bulb that looks closer to what they would experience in nature. Waiting to see if these new variable have any affect on their coloration.

This color change in A. chrysopterus is a big mistery...............as it happens in the wild too.............

Here are a few exemples of the "Brown Morph" in the wild...........

(here in the link wrongly called A. akindynos)...............both fishes are A. chrysopterus..............

Orprey Reef - Coral Sea..........

http://atj.net.au/Dive200752812North_Horn.html

A. chrysopterus from the Coral Sea.............I mean East PNG.........Solomon Is...........and GBR - Austrália..................have Black Pelvic and Anal fins..........and belong to the White tail variety..............

But The White tail variety from Caroline Islands............Palau.............Marshalls................and also in Marianas..........have Yellow Pelvic and Anal Fins............

My friend Walmyr Buzatto also photograph a Pair in GBR.............Austrália............

So this is a great mistery abot Orange Fins...............

Interesting photos Yuri. I'm glad you posted them as I was considering ordering some of the black pelvic finned variety from the Solomons in hopes they might maintain their beautiful coloration. After seeing those pictures though, I might hold off a bit.

I have no idea about what you can do.................to mantain their colors.........

It was a surprise to me see these pictures...................too..........

We can theorize that this is due the food..................maybe they are eating alot of HUFA rich plancton in the wild.................and etc.........

But as we see..............Brown Morph occour side by side...............with colorful individuals.................eating the same wild food...........

So it´s a real Clownfish mistery................

In French Polynesia.........Society Island and Tuamotu Archipelago.............exists a diferent variety of Yellow Tail.................basically they are founded in H. magnifica...............and also we can see the Brown Morphs................

As these in Tahiti...........

http://500px.com/photo/10251891

They reach the extreme East side of Clownfishes Geografic Distribution.................in Fakarava Island..................

Here we can see normal coloration................Always in Mags...............and one of the distinct characteristic of this variety is the open top...............of the head band.......................as well as the bands are generally very thin...................

Just correcting the locality...............these brown moph fishes is from Rangiroa..............Tuamotus..............

Not from Tahiti.............

Yeah, the ones from Tahiti are kinda different. Almost like a slightly muted version of those from Fiji or Tonga. Another thing that's kind of interesting about the Tahitian ones is that they seem to commonly associate withe Heteractis magnifica, where as in other locations this appears to be quite rare.

I think that the Fijian and Tongean Yellow Tail............belongs to the same variety founde in Kiribati.............and also in Mariana Islands..........

Look the Yellow Tails from Rota Island............Marianas............

http://waterworks-sysooke.blogspot.com.br/2009/05/sailing-and-diving-on-rota-island.html

Marianas is the only place where two varieties are founded.............

I mean.............the White Tails are founde there too..............

Look this vid from Saipan island..............we can see a normal White Tail and a Brown Morph...........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUvNHJe9QYc

And also............something intermediate between these two varieties........

Wow! That brown morph looks just like my pair now. So strange. It's kind of a relief to know that the color loss happens even in nature. Kind of...

It´s not a shame keep the fishes this way...............

It´s very intresting..................because we see this event..............but we don´t understand it completelly..........

It´s a real mistery............
