New H. Magnifica (Ritteri)

Goodluck with your Magnifica. I just got one last week also. Here is a picture of my Magnifica

I am not sure if he will do well. I got him from Aquarium Masters in Corpus Christi, TX. I traded a bunch of Xenia SPS and a BTA for him
 
do you have a recommendation on how best you do this. I don't have a reactor or anything so I would have to do it slowly, manually.
 
Im sure more experianced reefers will post and Im sure a little research will prove to be helpful also but I have purple-up that im using to try and add color which rasies CA.

So after daily Algea getting worse, I broke down and got some GFO. Looks better after 2 days. The tank is 90 gal and I'm running enough for only 50 gal, that way I don't get rid of it all too fast. I have also been getting my water from a LFS and now have premission to look into a RODI unit for home. Hubbie finally realized how much money i was spending on just top off water with a 30 mile drive into town for 3 bucks worth of water every week. :bounce3:
Any input on some good RO DI units would be useful. I'll post some new nem pics when I get um. Got all my Bulbs changed out and everything Nem is doing good. Ate 2 thin dime size pieces of scallops yesterday
 
Go look at BFS they are a supporter here. I got mine and was deleveried last week. I was doing a 120m round trip for mine.

I am going to set mine up to also be in line with the frige. That way the door water and the ice will be a bit tasty and all.
 
I would suggest changing your ro filter. If the algae is new to your tank and everything else same, could easily be the culprit.
 
I agree with D-Nak. Calcium and alkalinity does not do anything for the anemone. The OP Alkalinity and Ca level are fine

Have some new pics of the nem. Seems to be doing great the last week, no deflating, picking up it's oral disk, eating like a champ.

The mag is looking good. Ca is not a concern with anemones--temperature, specific gravity, and nitrates are important.
 
Looks great! The Onyx clowns are looking good too. Definitely keep us up-to-date. Have you noticed the Onyx clowns "fading" (loss of black) as a result of magnifica host? They look like juvis so I'm guessing the black will continue to fill in, but I've read about and seen photos of Onyx clowns losing their black in mags.
 
Regarding RO/DI. I don't use DI, just RO. I hook it for drinking water. I do have an water solftener in for the house so we cannot really drink tab water. The RO for both drinking and for the fish. IMO/IME the little additional minor impurities need not be removed.
 
Wow I think I'm going to have to get one of those nems. I love the purple.if your ro filters are dirty that will put phosphates into your tank and get algae growing
 
Thanks guys, I'm glad to hear others think it looks good too!!! super excited!

I have been feeding it 2 small pieces of scallops (bout the size of my pinky nail) once a week. It looks so much better a for a few days after feeding it. I'm thinking maybe I should feed it twice weekly because it is so big maybe it needs more food.

as for the fish. i'm told they are just regular true percs. Atleast thats what I ordered. They had almost no white on them when I got them. I have had them for about 5 months. Their bars came in pretty rappidly at first and have since halted. Not sure if they are going to be misbared or if they were going through a growth spert before. I have not noticed any black fading. if anything they top dorsal fin is now completely a dark black, which was orange previously.
