New Hydor pump

after looking at the review of the hydor, I think this http://www.oceanflo.com/ will be better.

Sadly for the ocenflo group - "To our Customers:

We regret to inform you that we have suspended ALL operations and production."

"A family member within Oceanflo was recently diagnosed with

a nerve degenerative illness and is taking a turn for the worse.

Family always comes first."

That stinks. I hope they get better.

Once again, depends on what you want... do you want more forceful directional flow or do you want a wider, gentler flow.

I've seen those kits around and they look great, but they cost you (60 bucks just for the guard and prop assembly) and they don't come with a magnet mount. So, overall, you are likely looking at spending over 100 bucks on one of these things. They are also far less maneuverable and none of them would be suited for very small tanks as they flow too much and the flow is too directional and focused.

If you've got a big, long tank then that is a really good way to go in terms of price to performance. You need at least a foot and a half for these production maxi mods to reach a flow velocity that won't rip flesh off of your corals. For smaller to medium large tanks, I still think the Hydors and Tunze nanostreams are a good option.

Cheers,
John H.

anybody have one on a smaller tank yet? i purchased 2 400s for my mixed reef 33g oceanic cube and am wondering how the flow looks.

My buddy has a 4 in his 125g and flow is really good, it's all over the place. I've never seen a pump that has flow that spread out.

It covers half of his tank. I will be ordering one or two.

im FINE guys oceanflow is is the company that is out of buisness
thank you for your sentiment your so kind but that was a cut and paste from the maximod website Oceanflo

How do you think the 1200 will do in a 65 gallon tank?

Two of them could do the job

Your tank will be swimming in flow. I would suggest getting either two of the koralia 3s (800gph) or get one koralia 4 and one koralia 3. Two koralia 4s maybe a little too much depending on the amount of sand you have in the tank.

If you are BB and have lots of SPS that can handle high flow, then go for two 4s.

Cheers,
John

I am due to receive two Koralia 3s for my 50 gallon (36x18x18). I'll post how they do soon!

If there is a definitive controller (for example - Seio) that can control these, PLEASE let me know.

Scary person,

I actually think you'll be pretty happy with the amount of flow you get from just the one koralia 4.

I'm just a flow junky. I have one penductor on my Mak4 pump (used to be two, but the koralia 4s are more than enough to replace one and deliver a much better and wider flow).

I've also got two Koralia 4s (one only on for like an hour each day to blow any detritus off the barebottom). The other is on the whole time.

Finally, I have a Tunze 6025 as well. All of this on my tiny little 60 gallon cube.

Cheers,
John

I am setting up a 36" x 20" x 24" tank at the moment, and I'm putting in two Tunze 6045's and two Koralia 4's =) I was going to go with two tunze 6025 and two tunze 6045's, but since the 4's are so cheap, might as well...

I'll probably do a comparison, and a video of the insane flow the tank will have.

I'm pretty sure it'll be BB regardless if I had sand in there before the pumps are turned on ;)

Kinetic,

Honestly, I know they say a lot of flow is great, but you are probably not going to know what to do with all of those pumps!

That is a lot of flow 60-70X turnover! I hope you don't plan on having all of those pumps on the whole time. Even SPS have their limits. Remember that the Tunze nanostreams will most likely deliver a more focused stream than the koralia 4s.

Is this all going on that 75 gallon tank you are planning? Will you be putting them on a wavemaker?

Once again alot of flow. Definitely I wouldn't be surprised if you took one of those pumps out or you had to deflect a lot of the flow against the glass.

Best of luck... are the 6045s out yet?

Cheers,
John

Hey John,
It's true, the flow will be 60-80x given the thickness of the acrylic =P

I'm using 4 seio 620's in a 40g breeder right now, and they give great flow only the top half of the tank (where they're mounted towards), but down at the bottom, barely any flow. So I'm thinking two 1200gph pumps up top, and two on the bottom should cover the entirety of the tank =/ But you're right, I might start stripping all the tissue off my SPS if it's too crazy.

i'll have to think about it...

so anybody that is using the 4's.....would 2 4's be enough for my 90gal(48x18x24)? are they definatley controllable(if so with what)? should i keep holding out for the tunze 6055s'?
