New Life Spectrum Ick Shield

My 2 cents... The best ich shield is quarantine with a copper treatment. I like Cupramine. I used to not quarantine. It was stupid. Quarantine is easy unless you have huge fish and after having two huge tank breakdowns because I didn't I'm never not quarantining again. As far as nutrition, just MAKE SURE YOUR FISH AREN'T STRESSED. That comes from water quality, tank mates, and nutrition. Feed them a high quality food (Hakari frozen, NLS) and feed them regularly so they're nice and fat (a fat fish is a happy fish) and that's your best defense against disease.

Things like garlic additives don't work. They "could" increase a fishes immune system but it's marginal. And every study of garlic used as killing ich involves injecting it into the fish directly (talk about stressing them). It does help get picky fish to eat, and I say go ahead, use it for that, but don't count on it as a fail safe.

CP is a proven method of treating ich. Hence why public aquariums and research centers use it. Garlic as mentioned is a joke and has been proven to cause liver problems in fish. You have a better chance of force feeding with Stat than you do getting fish to eat with garlic. It will help cause a feeding response in some fish but notoriously difficult fish it will have little to no effect on. Spend your money on something else other than garlic, it essentially useless and anyone claiming it cured ich is just not educated

I think the powder works. I put in my DT for 21 days after 2 fish died of Ich and my yellow tang, firefish, chromis etc. started showing signs too. After a day or 2 of the treatment, they stopped flashing. Did not see any issues after that.

did you have any shrimp and snails in the dt. I want to try this but don't want to lose my shrimp and snails.

Not sure about shrimp, but my snails all had a bad reaction within an hr. of adding the powder. The hermit crabs were fine. Also I had a lot (probably 200) of tiny brittle starfish that did not live either.

CP will kill worms and coral and probably snails. I wouldn't risk it with shrimp, although I don't know if it's toxic to them.

I used it in a DT after removing all vulnerable inverts and it was about 3 months before putting coral back. I used frags of evil indestructible green star polyp as guinea pigs. It didn't die, but it looked like crap until about the 3 month mark.

well went a head an dosed the ick shield. snails took a beating shrimp and hermits or fine after 2 days. haven't seen my wrasse though and 2 midas blennys. the good news I don't see no more spots. 28 more days to go.

I think all inverts except crabs will die due to CP. Better take them out. After the treatment is done, run good carbon or phosphate filter for a few days and put 1 snail in to make sure its all gone.

ben running 7 days now haven't lost any fish. the only thing that died were my snails. the shrimp and crabs are still fine. i just followed the directions on the bottle. still have 14 days to go but might go extra week.

I would do a full 30 day treatment with CP. If it has a exoskeleton the CP won't kill it invert wise, everything else will die

fish seem to be doing fine but the tangs not eating nori as much. its just harder to keep an eye on the fish with tank being darker they want to stay hid but they do come out an eat.do you think my flame wrasse will make it 30 days he is still eating good and swimming around?

That's what the downfall to CP (dark tank) not sure how much life is too much. Keep a eye on the wrasse, if any fish stop eating that's not a good sign.

ok 2 weeks in see no signs of ick no rubbing scratching. fish look good all eating good. the only thing im doing is 55 gallon water change every week an re dosing. if it wernt for the lights breaking down the meds. I thing this would be the best for ick in large fish only tanks.seems mild but effective. now if I can get bye with another 2 weeks.

How do u know if your lights have uv. I talked to the main person at NLS about this and he said it should only b if u have a specific uv led or something of the like. Didn't know if some of the t5's I have, have any uv output.

Black Ich is a misnomer! It is actually a turbellarian worm and not a protozoan parasite like Cryptocaryon.

Ich-Shield may not do much against it or just kill some of it because it kills many inverts.

The proper treatment is with a medication that specifically targets worms like for example PraziPro.
