New Malu or what?

About a month ago I found this little anemone at a local store. I would say that it is a Heteractis malu but it has a somewhat unusual color pattern:

Looks more like a seabae to me. But the foot looks like the foot on my Malu and I've been told the foot is a good way to ID. I found there isn't great info on nems, but good luck

It's definitely not a H. crisps (Sebae anemone). It's for sure a sand-dwelling anemone and it holds its tentacles very different from a crispa. Also, I have never seen a crispa with this type of two-zone coloration.
It also doesn't look exactly like the malu I have seen so far.

That is a H. malu. It is small and have the two tone pattern of some Malu.

I kind of figured, just wasn't 100% sure but by the time I moved it, it had an orange foot which made it pretty clear.
I have it now in a small plastic cup with rather fine coral sand and it seems to like it there.
Once it gets a bit larger I may put a pair of Anemone Shrimp in it.

Is it hosting any of your onyx clowns yet? Interested to see if the onyx clowns lose the dark coloration when hosted by malu.

How is your Malu doing? I saw some that have a complete yellow circle around the whole anemone

It's doing good and is now home to a pair of anemone crabs.
I have it "potted" in a 4oz food service container with fine coral sand and it seems to like it that way.
