any reason why this GSM would be biting tips off this BTA??

its not jus sucking on the tentacles.. there are few that have been completely bitten off.

Maybe they are related to my maroon clown who bit off every tentacle from my sand sifter.... Luckily he regrew them in a different tank.

Sorry I have no answer but I'm curious to see if anyone might. My maroons have loved to death each BTA that I've tried to introduce. I have accepted the reality of one boring tank...with really good lighting.

hmm.. the bta looks pretty tattered now.. i thought the bta was the natural host for GSM.. the GSM is just tearing it up like he owns the place.. haha.. we'll see what happens.

the first pic was from the day i got the gsm 12/26..

here it is today.. jeez fish:

heh just no respect for the home i provided him

I've seen the theory mentioned they do this to absorb sting cells, maybe, and maybe your clown is just overzealous.
Nem looks plenty big enough, and yes a natural host, hopefully it mellows out soon

Keep a close eye. My BTA's were good sized, I even tried to acclimatize in an internal glass box in the aquarium. I did great until Mr. and Mrs. Nemo got in. Seems some clowns are just too rough on their hosts... Good luck!

Sucking and biting on tentacles is completely normal clownfish behavior. All do it to some degree. I think it is a way to get the protective slime of the anemone onto their mouth and gills.

was surprised to see the gsm completely bite off the tentacle tips tho...

my gsm pair always nip and bite and bother the nem. They slowly calm down and the nem gets used to it after awhile and doesn't wince after feeling the bites after awhile.

Yep as above, turns out it's probably about there being a lack of food for the clown, than 'absorbing' the nem's slime for protection or whatever. See here.

It would explain the ruthless biting behavior, and why feeding the GSM may seem to have calmed it down somewhat. The GSM may still comtinue to suck on the nem from time to time though.

he was at it again today.. when i caught him doing it, i fed immediatly..

will the bta grow back the tentacles?

Maroon can be rough on small anemone. Maybe you should separate them. Feed the BTA to get him bigger then put them together
