New Maxijet impellars problem

So I got a couple of the new maxijet1200s that come with the laminar flow impeller and casing... Theyre terrible! I cant get them to stay together unless I hold the cover on while I start the pump. Every time the power goes off and then back on, the guard flies off and the impeller blade comes flying out. Anyone else ran into this? I guess I could glue the guard on, but wouldnt be able to change the impeller down the road then. Also, id say they only put out about half the gph of the old modded mj1200s :(

I haven't used them with the guards on, I am running 2 of them as returns on my 28 cube and they work great with lots of flow, fwiw.

I had the same issue. Just wrap a zip-tie around the pump body and the stubby part of the shroud. This is just one of the dumbest pieces of product design I've ever seen. When you have to service/clean it, just slide the zip-tie off, and just mash it back on when you're done. It took Marineland how many years to get off the dime, and now this.
