New naokoae and bathyphilus

Lemon,

Does your hooded male start displaying in the evening before the lights go out? Has he been displaying to the female since you obtained them or has it just started recently? Does he display reliably every day at around the same time?

nice vid. thanks for sharing. I wish females are more available but it seems like when I look anywhere, it's always males that are available (when Hooded are available, period).

chooch

- it displays the whole day. but frequency of flashing increases dramatically during evening time when the blue lights are on. it's always the case for fairy wrasses.

i've had it since i posted in this thread on the first page. it only started flashing starting about 2 weeks ago. i used to have 2 females but one of them just dissapeared one day.

z n p - females and males are obtainable here. at times in numbers like this...

you think this is scary? wait till i show you the picture of the lineatus fairy wrasse shipment!

ah! thanks for the reply.

am humbled that it came from you.

you know my friends and i back in my country are very very impressed with your stunning collection. your earlei is certainly a conversation piece.

not to mention your ultra rare lunatus X cf. lanceolatus. marjorie, johnsoni, and a whole myriad of other rarities!

great job with the awesome collection :)

If you ever find yourself in the USA you are more than welcome to stop by and see them in person. I'll even feed you and provide some cold beverages.

nevermind the earlei! feed me and beverages?! haha. just kidding!

thanks for the offer! if i ever find myself in the USA i'll be sure to let you know! :)

perhaps in the winter so i could see a real fireplace in action! i've never seen a fireplace being lit up before and i really like those.

Lemon,

Thanks for the info. I wonder why it just started flashing recently?

I want to obtain a pair or trio but they don't seem to be available much here in the states in the last year. They were fairly available two or three years ago. They are definitely one of my favorite fairy wrasses.

my friend came over with a good camera today to take some shots of my tank.

here are some shots of my hooded in it's peak of flashing! finally some nice pics.

look how the body turns into a beautiful pinkish lilac colour!

i also recently picked up another hybrid flasher wrasse.

this is a hybrid of Paracheilinus filamentosus and Paracheilinus flavianalis.

The tail is double emarginated, which is a feature acquired from the lunated tail of a filamented flasher, and the round tail of a yellow fin flasher. there isn't much difference from a normal filamented flasher besides the tail and fin colouration.

the dorsal filaments and anal fin are very variable. but the tail is always double emarginate.

such hybrids are very common in my country and at times, can even out number the pure bloods. they are sold at the same price as the normal non-hybrids and at very very cheap prices.

The filamentosus x flavianalis flasher hybrids are the most commonly seen hybrids of this genus. I'm still searching high and low for the elusive angulatus X lineopunctatus. that is a beautiful hybrid and i've not seen one for sale here so far.

don't worry, the fish was not harmed in anyway. it was just gently cradled just above the water so i could take a few pictures before i released it back into the social acclimation box.

the hooded is going nuts at it.. which is bad..

bradley any updates on your octotaenia and kuiteri?

Both of those wrasses have never appeared in my country before! i'm very excited for some photos soon. :D i think even if they did come in, it would be expensive.

same for the attenuatus flasher and the nahackyi's fairy. both fishes have never appeared in my country before.

aquaph - this guy is really strange. it was very docile when i first got it. but only recently has it started going bonkers and flashing all day every day! and it's getting pretty aggressive.

I'm afraid the flasher didn't make it. When I got her out of the box it was very lethargic, and during acclimation she just rolled over.:sad2:
Mike issued a credit, no questions . Which is good, and he hopes to have more next week.
The Kuiters are still with Liveaquaria. I talked to a rep again today and they hope they are ready to ship sometime next week. Lucky I kept their picture. It's been so long since I ordered them I'm having a hard time remembering what they look like.:lmao::rollface:
So.....Hopefully pictures sometime soon. Keeping fingers crossed.

brad i'm so sorry to hear about the octotaenia!

i do hope you receive another pair in due time.

and i'm also anxiously awaiting the arrival of the kuiteri!

The Kuiter's are doing fantastic. Up an hour before lights, and are now staying up untill 2 hrs before lights out. So almost 11 hrs a day. They haven't started eating pellets yet, but I'm sure they will in time.

The smaller one.
