New obsession, a little slice of the rain forest

I just got back from the critter, this time I took a quick run through the reptile section. And I was completely blown away by the frog setups those guys have in there. They are using the same idea that we have, with the foam for the background. Except, they tack corkwood onto it, moss, plants etc. Chip (the guy I was talking to) uses an eheim filter and wires the return to several peices of air hose, so they have water dripping down the back wall, over the moss and plants. Gravel/water at the base... man.... it was about as impressive as seeing my first reef tank.

So I've got a 40g breeder in the garage :) Which is now on its way to being a little peice of jungle. Any of you happen to do this as well?

Those tanks are awesome.

I'm actually settin' up a 10 gal for my brother as we speak. I have it pictured out really good. We'll have to see how it turns out. I ordered my kit through blackjungle.com and got some really cool plants. The rest will be here Monday. I'm just usin' a pre cut piece of tree fern for the background and gonna use the creeping plants to grow on it. I'll post pictures when it's done. I plan to have a waterfall leading to the pond.

I know it won't turn out as nice as theirs. I really like the one next to caiman tank for 5k.

a 40 gallon would look good. If all goes well with the 10 gallon, I'm gonna probably set me up a 75.

I fell in love with that display, too, Chuck. Not worth $5k to me, but I'm definitely interested in building my own one day. Maybe THAT would be a great recording studio tank with less noise than a reef! As long as the frogs are quiet. ;)

What size is the big one they have there? Maybe a 90?

Can't wait to see pics of yours, Steve!

i think its a great idea, and i would do it too if the feedings were a little easier, but i think you have to feed frogs everyday or every other day, and thats crickets. not happening with me, but i still love the idea.

and BTW..

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS.

Yep, i was also, and in fact copied them with my tank, I had a 48 tall that is now a frog & lizard habitat. I went to Wayne's place and go the wood bard for the background, and used black eggcrate and plastic plants. Still thinking of using an aqualifter to make my waterfall larger. But cool stuff there at the AC.

Here is a picture of my setup

the one by the caimen tank is a 110 reef ready tank (i think). I like the bowfront by the crickets/worms too. And the nano cubes are just awesome. Awhile back they had a 55 gal. with oak stand that had frogs and lizards in it. Was only like 500 or 600. I wished I had bought it.

I cant wait to see the 240 (I think???) in front of the counter that's in process.

I hope mine turns out good. I actually like these better than reef tanks. I never even go in the fish side anymore. I did go in there ast week, only to look for a metal stand for my snakes. I spend all money on snake food and supplies. I now have 6 snakes. I kept 2 of my babies that was born Jul. 8th Here's their month old pictures...

I know my pics are off topic...

Norman, that looks great. I might go in to AC tomorrow. I know I'm goin' Monday. I will take my camera and get pics to post on here...

Steve

Lookin' good, Norman. Any chance for live plants one day? :)

Steve! Dude! They're GORGEOUS! :eek1:

Rock on, man!

I'm pretty sure I'll be going the corn snake route one day. We can only have fish here and I still have to talk Julie into it, but I'll get there one day. :)

Brandon, I plan to breed again next year, if I find me an adult female Butter Motley. I'm givin' my original female a break. She was too small. I was surprised she had 9 healthy babies. Here's the 7 that went to AC...

I promise, no more off topic pics...

Are thos not live plants? I couldn't tell. The way I'm settin' up the 10 gal is...

I'm usin mopani wood to seperate the land from water. The water will be on the right side. The pump in the back along with tubing will be hidden by cork bark...for easy access if it quits workin'.

Here's kind of an idea

The side for the land will be filled with hydroton (clay gravel for drainage) then a screen goes over it, and the the soil for the plants. The hydroton keeps the soil from bein soaked by sittin' in the water.

Steve the bottom left red corn snake, the one that has the shape of the letter "Y" is now back in the boro :) and is named "Yoshi" because of that distinctive "Y".

be sure and keep us posted on your frog tank, and Brandon, it will stay plastic plants, less upkeep, right now I just throw some crickets in there every few days and spray water for the lizards.

wow!!!...those are cool...i might have to look into these myself!....any websites i should look into, to start up steve?

blackjungle.com is a good site. Or just talk with the guys at AC. The 80 bowfront is sweet. Alot of condensation (sp?) wouldn't let me get a clear picture of the rock waterfall on the side.

I setup the 10 gal. for my brothers reed frog this evening and I really like the turnout. Only dissapointment was I wasn't able to do the waterfall as planned. I still like it though. If I decide to do one for me, I will probably pay the workers at AC to do it. But here it is, only took about an hour to setup...

I think the frog will like it much better in here than the little plastic cage it's in now. Gonna definately have to get it some friends.
