just got a frag of it today...

Hows does it look in person? Its hard to see with all the blue in your pic. How much are they selling this one for?

its kinda browned out a bit, so not much diff than the pic right now, i had it ordered by a LFS and paid $69.99 before tax, i guess there is limited supply right now and stores are only allowed 1, so thankfully the LFS let me have their 1!!!

You guys are spoiled. 10 years ago you would have been killing each others children to get a piece of that coral.

That doesn't mean much. There's lots of things we would have killed for 10 years ago that we have plenty of now..

10 years ago there was no where near the success with SPS as there is today.....

What I mean is that people seem to have stopped appreciating nice corals because they don't have a super rare color or growth form. That is a nice looking piece of coral and if grown out will be a great looking colony in someones tank with good shape texture and color. However, people are saying it looks like a pile of poo, and all of that. It may not be the end all be all for its species, but it is still a nice coral.

10 years ago we would have been killing each other over pumping xenia and coralife power compact lights.Bo how I remember those days.

I agree, like I said above,10 years ago,SPS were almost impossible to keep till the lighting eveolotion came along and removeal of waste and nutrients from the system.

Judging by the way it looks it isn't anywhere near the price they are asking for it.

$70+ for a brown coral with purple tips...... I'll pass.

$30 for a brown coral with purple tips..... Now you're talking.

Not to argue, but I think the price of their orals is very reasonable for what they do to it.

1)These corals are grown under their roof for many months, and years to get them to perfection in their system.

2)Once done with that, they cut the coral and let the fragments grow over the plug in many cases.Which isnt cheap when producing 1-2,000 fragments, plus their of fish.

Their stuff is good priced and I wouldnt have a problem paying $70 for it.No problem at all considering that this piece grows super slow.

I saw this coral in one of ORA's display tanks at macna. It had good color and was pretty green looking. They said asking price in most lfs will be $50 for a frag of it.

you have to remember that ORA is a wholesale operation so they are not getting anywhere near $70 for this frag, with shipping and lfs markup(which YOU pay for) they are getting closer to $20 or less for these frags which is very reasonable considering the great lengths they go to to ensure that their corals are consistent in coloration and like sated previously making and growing out to the point of full or near encrustation(don't think thats a word but Im going to use it anyways:beer:) on the plug many thousands of frags is not cheap now is it an easy task.

remembered pearberry was 79.99$ when they came out,,,now people in my local reefclub sale it for 15$ even bigger size tha when they came out,,,wow not even two years see the price drop..
maybe new ORA release hit that low some day,,JMO:wave:

Well, I purchased one today at a LFS in Baton Rouge, LA. They were selling it for $59.99. The one I picked up is mostly brown with a little purple on the tips and no green polyps. The frag has the same sort of twist as the first picture in this thread. As it is now, it is not impressive and I am hopeful that it turns out to be much nicer than it appears now. Only time will tell and I can only trust that like other ORA corals it will turn out very nice.

ORA could put dog poop on a frag plug and sell it. Thats how sweet their corals are and how obsessed we are over have every new one. LOL I love SPS
