New Purple Gig.....

I find empty Turbo shell at the foot of my Gigantea also. Once the snails are within reach it will be pull to the mouth and empty shell spit out. Snails tend to withdraw into their shell when disturbed, or sting, and this is not the way to get away from a carpet.

+1. I find empty shells on the rock below my gig.

I was starting to get a little concerned when he swayed enough and I was able to see his foot around, there was this big lump... My first thought.. Cancer?! Nope, just a huge conch shell. All better now.

Selcon comes tomorrow... let the vitamin enriched feedings begin!

So this morning before I left the Gig looked like it was thinking of moving, and when I get back, sure enough, it's moved it's foot probably about.... 4-5" upward kinda into a cave. What's interesting is, I can see parts of the oral disc that are now dark, and no longer translucent... There are also more tentacles that are a DARK purple and not just a pale purple...

My guess is, it's finally healthy enough to want to pick a spot where there is more chaotic flow and much more light... Maybe it's finally done acclimating to the tank and our environment..

I have a piece of salmon soaking in Selcon and will feed it shortly. Thoughts anyone? Is this a crack pot theory? The tentacles when hit with the MP40s look more so like a regular gig everyday, they are starting to really shag.... I'm hoping this is good and not a bad day for me.

Sounds like the zoox population is returning, as evidenced by the darker areas. Make sure the pieces of salmon remain small -- pencil eraser size -- no need for the nem to work harder to digest it. I think it's heading towards a full recovery. Great job.

Thanks.. my initial indication was that it's moving, so maybe it's sick, or unhappy, but when I gave it salmon, it was an instant feeding reaction.. it even pulled some Rod's from when I feed the tank before as well... So I don't think that this is a bad thing necessarily. It probably just needs more light and can actually handle it now, as well as the flow.

So the way the rock is has a almost vertical ledge type structure, then this open cave'ish hole, then rock again.. The foot before was on the bottom rock, just inside of the cave.. Looks like he's moving himself upward but that requires the foot to go deeper into the cave... Are Gigs just as capable of moving as BTAs and other anemones? Trying to understand if he will need my help or not.. otherwise, do I just let him be and monitor?

What a beautiful nem you got there! Great thread and thanks for letting me know I'm not the only crazy guy here... lol

Some updated pictures from today. He settled higher in this "cave" like area and is extending nice and large today... looking real good. I haven't seen his mouth in two days and increasingly I'm just seeing darker areas on him.... A fold on the top part of him is like stuck in this cave. Not sure if this is on purpose, but he seems to be doing just fine.... He' settling in for the long haul and seems bigger than he ever has been until this point.

Tentacles are absolutely way bigger and it is real neat to watch them get hit by the MP40s and wave around... I think he's on the way to a full recovery.... without medicating!

IME, gigs don't "walk" as much as BTAs or mags. But they do like light, so I'd expect it to keep moving up, though if it's getting enough light and flow it may stay put, especially if it's foot is comfortable. However, since it's bleached, you may end up with an unevenly colored gig -- the top half that's exposed to light will color up first. My suggestion is to remove the top part of the rock structure, so it can climb up to the top and perch upright on the very top. You don't need to help it, just let it do its thing.

Well, problem is I can't just remove the top part of that rock... It's all zip tied together, so hopefully he can find his way up to the part he wants to be.... He has a bit foot area, and a huge column when he wants to, and I finally caught a glimpse with the right current a few minutes ago, his column currently is like 5-6" deep in this cave.. This Gig is huge..

Also in this case, the top right quarter of his disc is kinda hidden and or in the rocky cave, the rest of him is out under the Radions and in the current... So that one little slice of his oral disc might be more bleached and color up slower... Makes sense...

In all cases, my nerves can calm down from yesterdays movement as I don't think this is a sign of ill health, just getting comfortable.

Nothing terribly new to report besides the tentacles getting much bushier now all over, starting from the mouth outward... I can see dark purple now starting to form on the tips and the base of some of the tentacles looks dark like a shadow... i'm guessing it's going to start coloring up nicely now..

I'm still trying to feed daily (salmon or krill). Will post some updated pictures soon.

Close up pictures of the coloring up area would be nice

If only my camera skills were that good... I'll do my best here shortly when my son goes down for bed. There are parts of the pedal that are now becoming darker..

Here are some new pictures from tonight.... Hope you can tell how long the tentacles have become and can see the dark coming into the tentacles as well... This guy is happy and eats like a hog. I barely put the salmon into his tentacles and he folds.. gone!

It's been a while since I put up some pictures, so... hope you don't mind the overload!

Minh... The one thing I have noticed is, the tentacle length started from the middle (mouth area) and is going outward, so basically the tentacles are longest in the middle and slowly growing toward the edge...... Is this what you have seen in your experience?

Nice looking clowns you have there, I have a pair of Booyahs that just found a new home, definetly one of my favorite fish. I plan on getting another pair when I get my system set back up , now only if I could find a purple gig for sale locally

I'm not too far from you, where did you buy your gig from?
