New Purple Gig.....

Nice looking clowns you have there, I have a pair of Booyahs that just found a new home, definetly one of my favorite fish. I plan on getting another pair when I get my system set back up , now only if I could find a purple gig for sale locally

Mitch's clowns are by far the best looking clowns I have ever come across. The care he takes with his animals and the lineage is amazing!

Like I keep telling everyone... You'll find the Gigantea don't worry, just be patient.. Once you find one, it will consume your interests and time... trust me, ask my Wife :-)

I'm not too far from you, where did you buy your gig from?

Not sure, but Mitch is a real stand up guy... I wouldn't buy clowns from anyone else. Good luck!!

Waking up under slight radion blues, after getting a nice piece of krill soaked in Selcon.. What's weird is if you can tell in the pictures, how the one back part of the pedal tucked itself behind that rock... The rest is all out in the open, but the Gig takes it out sometimes to eat, then tucks it back in there... No clue what he's doing but I'm leaving him alone, seems happy and eats like a hog.

The one interesting this is, since I have started feeding the size of the nem in general has gotten bigger, and now starting from the rows by the mouth, the tip of the tentacles are getting darker purple, and now the rest of the tentacle going into the pettle has this yellowish color to it, so it's darkening up! The tentacles on the edge of the pedal are still translucent'ish but more darker since he came into our tank.... Hoping I'm past the might have to medicate him stage.

In the last picture you can see some of the tentacles up front getting darker too.. It seems as though from my observations, the tips get darker purple first, then the body of the individual tentacles gets that cream color, then my guess is it will darken completely when it regains all of its zoox. It gets fed Krill soaked in Selcon daily, and I just picked up some scallops. I'll soak those in Selcon and alternate.

OK so I have a question for the Gig experts out there (that's you Minh) :-)

When I brought this guy home I noticed one part of his pedal was always smaller and folded more, never thought anything of it but figured maybe it was damaged in shipping, etc... Totally forgot about that, and it's been a month.

Overall, Gig is great, getting fed Kril, Salmon, Scallops, all soaked in Selcon first... Tips are turning DARK purple, noticeably! That's real cool.. The middle of the tentacles are turning creme colored and I think are on there way to getting darker in the next few months here....

So back to today... I fed'em, and noticed a weird little part of his fold (the part I saw was damaged on day one).... It looked dark in color, not really red at the edge of the pedal, and looked like it was injured... I tried to take as best of a picture as I could, but this is what I came up with.

Obviously he is getting better, coloring up, growing, etc so I don't think this is a terrible life threatening event, but more curiosu about what it could be... it almost looked like two little deflated flattened tentacles at the edge of the pedal.... The rim of the pedal was also darker that the other areas, like a reddish\purple'ish color...

Is this a sign the pedal is expanding and he's just growing? He is getting fed daily..

You can kinda make out the darker weird colored spot in the middles of the pictures... Thoughts? Am I just losing my mind?

.....

Purrlleeeasseeee!!!!!
I am no expert at Gigantea. I keep one since 7/2012, not even 1 year.

In my nonexpert opinion, I am not sure what I see there. As long as he is doing well, I would just follow and keep an eye on it.Let us know.

You should use flash when taken the pictures above. little more light in the middle there will help a lot.

FWIW, one of my Gigantea tentacle was really strange also. I will post a picture if I can find it when I get home.

hah.. more of an expert than me, and you've pioneered the Cipro treatment..

In all seriousness though, it looked real weird like someone took a couple of tentacles, and smashed them down making them totally flat.. The part of the pedal they were attached to was dark (red\dark purple) maybe?

Maybe he's growing, but just wanted to get your thoughts.. I'll try to use flash when I get home but chances are the pedal is hidden again and I won't be able to get a good look at it anymore.

You can try changing/redirecting some flow (just a little not a lot) to get it to wave in the water flow. That way you should be able to grab a picture.

Whoa...So I just walked by, saw he was folded where I could see and that color is gone. There are now two little tentacles in its place from what I can tell.......

I just saw tentacles being born on a Gig I think.

i am no expert either, but in my experience with my S. Gig's ive noticed select tentacles deflate from time to time.. and reinflate... ( im not really sure what your trying to point out or ask ) and like Minh said, a Flash would give us a better view at what you see.. because all i really see is a bleached S. gig that is successfully regaining Zoo's back.. :bounce3::bounce1::D

keep up the good work tho, ive been kinda of absent on these boards lately, works been hectic for me

Thanks everyone.. I can certainly see parts of the Gig becoming darker gaining zoox... It's a real cool process to see, but what I saw yesterday is gone.....

This is really cool to see... some close-ups of the zoox coming back.. Tips in some spots are getting darker purple, and I can see brown specks in the middle of the tentacles!!! What a great thing to see...

This guy is getting healthier and it is great to see the progress...

The parts closest to the light are obviously getting the darkest first.. Woohoo!

So just an update to show how far this purple Gig has come since we got it... Colors are absolutely darkening up, and he is probably double in size now, clocking in at 12" when flat... Beautiful animal, and my Onyx's LOVE it.

Nice! They look much better when healthy, IMHO, than when bleached.

Why does your tank always look so dark? :)

Thanks, it is MUCH healthier.... I need take pictures not in the morning or evening when the blues are settling in and more when the whites are on..

Not to mention, I am a TERRIBLE tank photographer.... :-)
