new RBTA not doing well.

I bought an RBTA yesterday and it looked fine in the store. fully inflated, attached well. I brought it home and acclimated it and the mouth was open from the start of acclimation. Since I placed it in my tank it hasn't attached and has been opening/closing it's mouth, it was deflated when I got home and was expelling waste. I have a 29g biocube with 150watt MH. I've kept many btas in the past with no problems whatsoever. I have sps, zoas, and chalice all doing fine. Is it a goner? anything I can do? the only other time I've had this happen was with a ritteri anemone a few years back. thanks.

relax as of yet , anemones have an attitude and when they get into a new tank, its not uncommon for them to act a little funny. It will probably walk around on you for a few days and that's ok too. Its just looking for a spot where its comfortable and hopefully it ends up somewhere where you can see it. Don't try to move it or mess with it and make sure it's not getting messed with by any corals. Give it a few days and see if it calms down. It might deflate a bunch over the next few days and inflate a little here and there. This is normal acclimation behavior but it should get comfortable soon and start its cycle of inflating during mid way for light and deflating at night.

fully inflated atm with mouth closed but still isn't attached. I tried feeding a piece of mysis today and it grabbed but eventually let go.

Sometimes they do get a little cranky when introduced into a new environment. Give it some time, start worrying if it stops doing anything...

What kind of flow do you have? When I get a new nem, I give it a good amount of flow, it needs that to wash away it's wastes. It will deflate a couple times, but it will eventually come back. And yeah, don't feed it until its good and established.

This has worked out for me.

was the nem under MHs at the store? also agree that sometimes they will take a few days to a week to adjust and find a spot theyre happy in

the foot looks like a mushroom at this point. fully inflated, and mouth tight. it managed to roll across the tank about an hour ago and knock over 3 different sps and zoas.

Have you checked the foot for a tear? maybe the LFS removed the nem incorrectly and harmed the foot thus it wont attach

if the anemone is still free floating secure it to the bottom at the foot of a rock via half a strawberry container or breeding container that will allow water flow to still get to it. just bury the corners of the container in the sand next to your LR. my new anemones normally move around for 3 or 4 days before they find a place that they like and when they are stressed or releasing waste even my 8 inch anemones will reduce to the size of a silver dollar. be patient and don't attempt to feed until it is secure for a few days. if the water conditions are good everything should be fine just don't mess with it too much, it will just add to the stress. keep it stationary with a container and give it some time everything should be alright
