I have put anywhere from 200gph up to 800gph through the unit, and have been just fine at about all of those places. The sweet spot however seems to be right around 350gph - 400gph though.
Dang! Gonna be one heck of a skimmer. I might have made it a bit taller myself, but still should perform really well. The bubble plate should do a decent job of reducing the turbulance in there.
We were going to go taller with the height, however the with the diffuser doing it's job it really does perform extremely well at 32" right now. We also wanted people to have options for installation in tighter quarters. There is also a possibility of a taller unit towards the first quarter of '08, with possibly a larger pump too.
Skimmer looks good and I'm very interested - what's with the 90 on the drain cup? I could see my hose kinking in that location - disaster number one.
I was looking at the pump from ORCA - no specs yet?
Are those all Euro fittings? If so are you going to start carrying fittings for it? Just been down this route before - getting parts is a pain if not common here in the US.
The 90* on the cup had to be there for competitor reasons. I personally do not recommend even using the drain in my opinion. I would plug it up and just use the cup only. The main reason being is that by the time the cup is full you are going to need to clean the neck anyways. By then the efficiency is going to be decreased enough that you'll want it cleaned out.
I still have not had a chance to do my own testing on the ORCA pump. I hope to have that done right after IMAC.
The neck uses key hole slots and nylon screws for that fitting.
Good point about the drain on the cup. I know with my skimmer, I have it draining to a bucket, and I get lazy about cleaning the neck. Unfortunately, if I were to go cup only, I would need a 5 gallon cup at least.
Question: Has Sequence put oout a NW version of the 4200 impeller? I have one waiting patiently, but I know the shaft size is different from the Dart.
I already have a 50g skimmer that I would like to soup up, and I have been in contact with ctenophore in the past, and it seemed at the time that they might make one for the 4200. I guess it all depends on where the market goes. A Hammerhead is probably too big for that skimmer. I know a Dart would work, but I don't have one.
I'll keep that in mind Jeremy. Thanks for the offer! I had hoped to use the 4200 since it is not really powerful enough as a return pump on my system. Right now I have it as a spare, but in the future, I will need to get another Hammerhead for that job.
Our first Reeflo skimmer shipped yesterday evening. As soon as Nick gets this guy up and running I"m sure he will be more than happy to share some experiences and photos of the unit!
At IMAC, I didnt see it myself, but someone said that there was a Euroreef at the PA booth running a dart needlewheel. Is this the case, or were they simply mistaking it for this skimmer?
There was a EuroReef RC1000 at the booth that was running the dart needlwheel, however the actual Reeflo skimmer with the Dart needlewheel on it was at another booth, not running.
Sorry for the wait guys.... I installed the unit about 3 hours ago and it is already pulling out some nasty stuff.... In the morning i will take some pics of it and have some details on pump wattage and so on... But so far i am loving the skimmer and Jeremy is a great guy to deal with....
