New Tank New Thread

i dont ever cycle a tank (sounds weird of course) but i seed it with some sand from my dealers and let it run for 5 days without corals or fish. i then check my parameter snad if they are ok then i start adding. i have done this on all my tanks and they have all done well NO FLAMING ME PLEASE just how i do things

looks like a good start. i wish i could find a smaller cube (not the nano cubes as i'm leary of them busting). there are so many options with arranging rock and corals and what not!!

:)

yea the cube is perfect for my apartment. I keep wanting to adjust my aquascaping but im just gonna leave it alone. i might get a little more rock. Once i get a house though 100gal and above is the way to go. Look at me already thinking about my new tank when this one hasnt even started

Been a while since i posted. ive added two clowns, a mandarin, starfish, clam, rose bta, and plate coral. Gonna post some pics in a few days. Haven't had one problem yet...knock on wood

Sorry it took so long to post the pics. Gonna get some zoos online, any advice on where to order??? Thanks for all your support

Update

Update

I haven't been updating as mush as i wanted. Here's a new pic. Ive added a green galaxia, Assorted mushrooms, Featherduster, and a cleaner shrimp. I lost my plate coral, i believe i just didnt give it a chance. Ive also rearranged my live rock and decided to stick with this for a while. Im looking into getting a small sump/refugium at around 10gallons. I havent been able to find any, i think i will just build my own. Thanks for Reef Central's help, i love my tank.

you added a mandarin??!! yikes!

if the mandarin isnt eatting prepared food (mysis, brine etc...) it will probably die!

mandarins eat pods....... if you tank is less than a year old there is no way that mandarin will survive!!!

also....... not trying to be picky or anything...... but with that temp gauge... you should put the reader at the bottom corner furthest away from heater......... that way you can find out the coldest spot in the tank and gauge your temp that way

you have the reader at the top of the tank... and that will always be warmer b/c of the light right above it.............

again... not trying to be picky or knock anything your doing.... just giving you some tips......... up to you if you want to use them or not :)

lizard couple, the refugium is great except for a lot of air bubbles. Very pleased. However the Bakpak didnt work good with the rio pump and the maxi-jet was twice as loud with the venturi. I'd rather get a remora, its great.

Angelo,
i dose my tank with some pods from oceanpods every 2 weeks, as for my temp gauge not to be nitpicking or anything but dont u have something better to do

I have been using the CPR medium fuge for about two months now. It helped me get rid of a huge cyano outbreak and is a pod madhouse. I really only get a few big bubbles from the outflow of the fuge and no micro bubbles.

I also tried the backpack skimmer with the maxijet and sent it back it was so loud.

My mandarin (yes, in a 20) is fat and happy(from eating all my wonderful pods). I have had the mandarin for about 8 mos and he has put on weight since coming to live in my tank.

BTW, I don't think you will get Thermalclines in a reef tank with 20x flow in the tank. You should be able to get a fairly accurate temp reading from anywhere in the tank.

SAME HERE!!!
you are the first person that i have heard who has done this
so many people jumped on me for it
i wait two weeks just to be safe though
i think if the fish are hardy then go for it
but i wait a while to add the sensitive stuff

With cured live rock and sand... AND modest initial stocking...

Cycle time is almost zero.

I have heard about people waiting weeks or months before putting in live stock. I have never seen the need.
