Quite the collection of fish you have there, very impressive. Look forward to more pics down the road :spin3:

Thank You, hope to have some new ones up this weekend. got new bulb so color is changing on one side and added another chamber and new pump on my ca reactor. Think the added stability will get the colors to finish out nicely.

so do you have any issues with the majestic? they are my favorite of all angels and i have been wanting one. i have a 180 but my stock list is somewhat high. i have a mixed reef and am not sure about them eating coral, same for the copperbanded

The Majestic is my least nippy of my Angels. The Copperband doesnt even look at sps. However, all my fish have been trained to eat large polyp corals or clams as well. Anything with flesh is torn appart before it reaches the bottom of the tank. Even my tangs will tear a clam apart in about 45 seconds.

I also have some new photos in a temperature thread and a few frags posted in a frag for-sale thread if you are interested in new pictures. Some nice images i think. Color and growth are real nice this week.

thats an awsome tank the majestic angel is one of my favorites but been to afraid to get them since they are usualy not reef safe i heard.

excellent growth on your corals....in just 90 days uou have a stable tank...keep up the great job buddy....

Amazing to see those angels living in harmony and hope you will be keeping them well fed so they dont go after those beautiful corals....

Do keep updating on the stats...

Really amazing tank Dave. 2400 watts of MH running for 11+ hours a day is unreal.

How much would you estimate this tank add to your monthly electric bill?

"reef safe" is a term that really doesnt mean much. Many fish that would make short work of any LPS are just fine in an sps tank. Yet these fish are often labeled "not reef safe".

All my fish graze on lps and my tangs would make short work of a clam as they have eaten frozen clams for many years. Most of the animals in my sump are there because of excessive predation in my main display.

If you have a tank large enough for a majestic, 180 or larger or if square, maybe smaller in volume, if you tank is large enough for the fish and you only keep sps then a majestic should be ok.

I have another 250 watt underneath on my dsb and a 175 on top of my wives turtle tank so according to her about 99 percent of our electric bill is due to my tank....

The first pictures after the tank was set up were 90 days 4 years ago. The tank was set up using all the rock and sand from my old system. It took me about a week to move everything over. There wasnt much of a cycle period. Most was due to moving an established DSB from one remote 75 gallon tank to my remote 75 gallon sump. That caused a mini cycle but other than the intial bryopsis spike it was inlsignificant. I moved the sand bed and let the new system cycle for about two weeks with some live rock in the main display . After it stabilized and began to clear i moved the rest of the rock over and did a 50 percent total volume water change. I dont think i lost any corals. I also added a few fish when i did the move. I had a serious ich out break so i added Ozone to the skimmer. I lost no fish from the ich and after a year or so I removed the ozone and havent needed it since. I dont add fish to the system so i dont expect to see ich again in this system.
The angels eat corals period. Doesnt matter how much you feed them. The only reason they work in this system, especially the emperator is because the tank is large enough and the corals are prolific enough to endure the constant grazing. Its in their nature to graze almost all living things in their domain. If we are going to keep these intelligent long lived fish then we must commit to keeping them past their juvenile stage when they dont graze that aggressively. The fish have too much personality and native intelligence to just dispose of them when they grow up. One of the reasons I designed and built this system was to keep the big angels. This system is the culimation of 30 years of keeping marine animals and in my experience would be close to the minmum size needed to properly maintain any of the large angels. Not flaming you here but If you read this 4 year old thread you will notice at one point I reported the angels dont predate at all. As they matured that changed and really dont want to encourage people to keep these animals in too small of a tank. This only works in a large well stocked tank. Dont try this at home...sorry bout that ......I appreciate the kind remarks.

Stuff keeps on growing

Stuff keeps on growing

Its been about 4 years since i started this thread, Stuff keeps growing. Tank is more stable than ever. Have added some more flow and some more lights in last year or so. Added another chamber to my ca reactor and maintained feeding at same level as ever. Fish and corals keep growing.

Doesn't look like those angels are effecting that coral growth at all.
Sweet tank man. Love all the fish. Thanks for sharing.
