okay, so I'm in the Memphis area and I'm really interested in getting into saltwater aquariums, I've done my research, done my homework, and pretty much think i know what I'm talking about. I really just want to get introduced to local people/groups (I've met a few people, Steve Palmer for example took me to Kermit's today) My plan so far is to get a 55 gallon reef tank (already purchased to actually aquarium) all the other equipment (lights, sump, live rock, etc) i haven't purchased yet and if anybody has any equipment they'd like to sell or knows people who have equipment to sell, I'm very interested, but this thread is really just to get introduced to local reefers. Thanks, Drew

ps if you don't want to post on the thread, you could email me at:

Well if Steve is the one took you to Kermits you are definatly talking to the right people to get you started.

Steve is one of the quiet ones, that has probably forgotten more than most of us know. I am sure he has you headed in the right direction. Through the Club and people like Steve and the wonderful local shops that we have, and here on Reef Central you are off to a good start.

Start slow, and if you are going to scrimp, from my experience "dont scrimp on lights or skimmer"

Good luck and welcome!!
Join the club and come to some of the meetings and fragswap

Welcome Drew. You're in the right place. As I told you earlier today, there are a lot of nice and helpful people here, who are more than willing and able to help you along.

Saw hi to Drew everyone. Let's encourage him as he, like the rest of us, gets addicted to an expensive, time-consuming, but wonderfully fun hobby.

well ill take anything all i have so far is a 55 gallon tank

Awesome, it just so happens that I have the exact amount of air needed to fill a 55 gal aquarium. Come by and I'll box it up for you.

By the way it's special deutschland meerwasser luft that I've been saving. Every time I get something from Germany I save the air.

Not for sale.

Oh dear ... now you've encouraged him.

"Air" is what you breathe and what Dave has between his ears sometimes when he's being funny. awwwww ... you know I'm just messing 'cause I like you, Dave

Welcome, Drew. Good Luck with your set up and we look forward to seeing you around RC and hopefully at the next meeting. Sounds like you're off to a good start putting this much effort into learning before you do.

Glad you caught the "air" thing on your own.
