yes they pick up alot of stuff in there normal travel thruout the tank. I loved mine when i got him especially the colors of the blue under actinics. Its almost like a decor crab picking up stuff.

I have had mine carry around a live hermit crab! It had hold of the top of the shell and you could see the crab's legs as it tried to get loose. And one time it carried around my floating thermometer for days. I love mine too.

Wow, do they normaly pic stuff up that quickly? This is mine got her on 02/15/10 still only has ruble.

I really don't know - I've read that they do but this is my first one. This one was wearing its fancy zoo and coral pajamas on arrival. Just figured that was a great bonus!

Great pictures, thanks for those!!

I was thinking of getting a tuxedo urchin for my 55. I was going to look into any downside into having one.

Some people say the can knock over small frags sometimes, and they do eat a little bit of coralline algae. Otherwise, they seem to be very safe. Mine just wanders the rock picking up things to stick to itself.

One reminder - like all echinoderms, these benefit from a VERY slow acclimation.

Mine was cool in the beginning but then he would be picking up the expensive corals and it got old constantly reglueing everything. P.I.T.A.

Checked my tank before work on Sunday and this is what I found. Will she let my frag go or will it be there for a while.

It is hard to say. I have had mine carry around corals or a floating thermometer for days at times. A lot depends upon where it ends up going. If the spot is tight, stuff could get knocked off or she may drop it.

Take a look at this :-)

The downsides Jason is that they pick up everything as my video shows and knock stuff over. If your reef is fully glued down then great, if not get a Diadema urchin as they don't pick stuff up and they eat a greater variety of algae.

That video is hilarious. The long spine is out. They creep my wife out. She's really good at just letting me pick stuff out but that and the spider/decorator crab were two things she has seen in the fish store that she flat out said that she doesn't want to see in the tank ever. :(

I have one of those crabs in a 5g, not risking putting him in my display!

If you want a cute crab, try a strawberry crab, their pink so maybe she'll like that!

at work right now, so no photos. As of this morning, he was carrying around two dwarf sea fans, some macro algae, and a bunch of snails. Very cool, but I think the sea fans don't really appreciate it. Occasionlly he picks up corals that seem to thrive like this.
