New unnamed species of fairy wrasse

What I noticed on mine was when he wasn't being bothered by my other wrasses he was white throat. As soon as my longfin wrasse was harassing him the blue throat came out. Possibly with other wrasses or a female present colors would be more consistent?

I thought that but I have 13 other wrasse in with him, I might try and source a female for him

So without the blue throat, this is a whipfin wrasse?
It's an interesting fish in that the blue throat gets darker when it is chased or ready to flash, otherwise it's white.
I wonder how close is this fish similar to Javan wrasse?

Ok, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who's Wrasse lost the blue throat. Every once in a while, I'll see its blue darken, but it ends up getting light again shortly. It sometimes flashes to the other Wrasses, especially after eating; I see its body color change rapidly, but throat stays a faded blue.

I also noticed it can get pushy with the other Wrasses. My Labout's, which is by far my biggest Wrasse (already full grown or close to it), had to put him in his place a few times when he starts chasing the smaller Wrasses around. I was actually surprised when I saw the Labout's act like a peacekeeper. It's nice to have a big fish to help maintain tranquility in the tank.

Mine lost the blue for a few months. I recently added a large red margin male and now he has the blue throat almost all the time. He has also became pretty nasty and goes after the red margin which is 3 times as big as him.

i have noticed that mine is very aggressive. it has killed my katherines wrasse and chased my pyleis wrasse a bunch at first. he is calmer now but im thinking about removing him from the DT, if I could ever catch him.

I just got one. The price really come down. He will be the only wrasse in my tank. Hope he won't loos his coloration. Maybe I put a mirror on the side of the tank.

I guess he need to have a female or other male to bring his color to optimal. Mine already get into flashes with the Flame Angel and the Azure Damsel. That was how I got his picture with fins fully extended. I guess he will hold his own against a Flame Angel pair and a Azure Damsel pair.
Also he ate well today, both flakes and frozen mysis.

Mine lost all its color except the red obviously within a couple weeks. He was there with 20 plus wrasses. But he also wasn’t near the top of the dominance hierarchy in my tank

Anybody able to keep him with another fairy or Flasher wrasse? Which species?

I put a mirror on the side of the tank for a hew hours. Fe flashed at his image quite a bit. I will update success or failure regarding using this to help him keep his color.

The Sailfin Fairy wrasse is really aggressive. He won't leave my slightly larger Labouti Fairy alone. After constant fighting for more than 7 days, I trapped and send him to the LFS for credit. Too bad that he is so aggressive. I wanted to keep more than 1 fairy wrasse in my 320 DT.

I've had mine for a couple of months, the prior keeper for a further two years. Blue throat is evident, though not that vivid blue. I have it in a 450 with a lot of other, larger fish; including lubbocks, labouts, pintail and rosy scale. Not particularly aggressive ..... so far.

Same issue with mine. Too aggressive. Took out a trio of rosescales and a orangeback as well as a pintail. Thought it would eventually calm down but never did. Now he's in a 120 with some anthias and still occasionally gives them a run for their money.

Mine was exceptionally beautiful and exceptionally aggressive. The blue throat is deepest, brightest blue when he flashes.
