Newbie Introduction Thread

I'm Dave and work in real estate development and my tank is in my home office that I get to see everyday. I never had a hobby and this was my first. I bought a full 150 gallon system from a guy off of Craigslist, the one of the movers cracked the Starfire tank.
So I've had my share of downs because I had to replace that tank in record time in order not to loose livestock.
I've spent a year adding softies and fish as prior to that it was only a FO tank. Now I'm getting into SPS and love it, although I really must say, I'm not the one who does the work...it's my wife. She does all maintenance including testing watching corals, fragging, acclimating, etc. I just buy the stuff and she does it all. I guess my real hobby is watching my wife work and posting to Reef Central when she doesn't know something.
Thank God for Reef Central, because I'd be lost without it! Everyone has always been nice, cool and very helpful. Great site!

Much respect to all of you for sharing. I hope you'll share even more along the way.

Thanks for the introductions.

I'm Yusuf and I'm a student. I live in Toronto, Canada which really sucks when it comes to buying products online because i have to pay for shipping and duties and a lot of places don't ship to Canada, but i guess i have to live with that. I have a 14g biocube thats been running for about 4 months now and everything seems to be going well. my corals are growing really fast and i've even had a mandarin goby in my tank for about a month now. I will post a current picture as soon as I have some time.

im kevin i live in lakeland florida started a 55 about 7 months ago i just have a goby and some peppermint shrimp other than that i got some zenias and sponges

"I see a lot of new reefers asking for the list of online stores. Any chance you can maybe stop by here for an introduction? Wouldn't hurt."

Oh heck, why not. I'm 41 and got unsuspectedly hooked on this hobby three years ago when we thought a little saltwater tank would be such much fun -- having no idea the rabid obsession that would soon follow.

I have a 30 gallon 20" cube, based upon the model from 'ninjafish'. Zoanthids were my 'first' coral love. After some frags taking off excellently -- I started to diversify into SPS and LPS. And NOW....my zoas, seem the most sensitive out of everything in my little cube. But I can never get over the beautiful little deadly 'flowers' that are zoanthids. They are so perfect in their tiny ways -- so colorful. And I LOVE the patterns.

I have about 10 varieties. I just started dosing vitamin C based upon the Pufferpunk thread, and am hoping to see good results soon. The weird part is that while about three off my little colonies are unhappy everything else in the cube is extremely happy. Go figure!

BTW: I love this forum, and all the helpful suggestion / pictures.

MUCHO adds so much honesty to this fforum. There are definitely some scheisters out there with their 'per poly' charges -- I fell victim to more than one of them when I first started out. Lately, my LFS has started to direct import from the Carribean and I've purchased a couple of fantastic frags at fractions of the 'on-line' vendor charges.

Hello from Iowa-I have been in saltwater for 2 years-however I am a newbie to zoas. I currently have a 150 with fish and some lps and am very interested in starting to add some great looking zoas to my current system. I am still in the process of upgrading my lighting. (pretty sure it will be T5"s. )

I have looked at the amazing pictures in this forum for the last two years since being on RC and all I can say is WOW. The people in this forum have some awesome zoas. I never realized how many color varieties are available( endless it seems).

My first question is: What are some of the on-line stores to find a variety of zoas?
any suggestions would be helpful
thanks in advance Jolene

Hi, my name is Barb and I am an Aquaholic. March marked my one-year anniversary in reefing. I have had freshwater tanks for more years than most of you are alive. I was quite content with my habit until a friend bought a SW tank and gave me the fish. It was only a small step from that to the “hard” stuff. I have a mixture of SPS, LPS, softies, and polyps.
I set up a 75gal reef ready AGA with home made sump and DIY skimmer and was going to make rock, but came across a tank sell out (rock and livestock), and poof I had an instant reef. I have spent the last year seeking the ever-elusive last frag (“I promise honey, this is the last thing I’ll buy”)

So you ask, where have I been all this time? Or maybe you aren’t asking. In any case I have peered into this forum on occation to see pictures and read up on the current Zoo issues, but for the most part have lurked in the local club forums.

Howdy everyone…

Welcome to all of you.

Anyone else new to the forum or the hobby who wants to make an introduction?

Hello , my name is Mike . I live in St. Clair Shores , Mi. I am not new to reef keeping. I had a 90g in wall at my last house which "had" to be included into the deal . Ive been bitten by the bug again , and started a 34 cube up . No livestock as of yet , just the CUC and some primo LR . I had the good fortune of meeting Mucho at a local frag swap and scoring some pieces off of him . He is even nicer in person than on the boards . Speaking of swaps , when will you be out on the east side ? My tank is looking mighty bare . ;)
