I'm notorious for just hanging around. One of the only ways to get rid of me to is post pictures :p

I worked all day and work tomorrow too:D Thanks for keeping me aware of my needs though. We are having a Pizza Night here in Saint Louis for the SLASH Club and I am going to be having folks over afterwards, maybe someone will bring a camera.

That would be cool! You need a night out with a bunch of ruffions:D

Question on your live rock curing method. Did you cure it in complete darkness to kill every thing off? I thought the purpose to cure quality live rock was to get rid of the organisms that died of during shipping (heavy skimming, frequent water changes) , then get it into a tank type environment to keep as much alive on/in the rock as possible? Don't you want to keep all those colors and not have it turn stark white?
Thanks

edit: Oh ya KILLER set up!!!!

Hey, it's 2009 and you need to provide us with some eye candy. ;)

I agree :D. I need some motivation to keep me stay in this hobby. I haven't had a tank for 15 months...

'Nook had the local reef club over at his house last night. I had a great time, and appreciated the chance to play around in the mini-ocean(s) (especially since it was -20 with windchill outside!!). Here are three that I put up this morning before heading off to work. They needed almost no touching up- unlike all the rest will need. Not because of my amature camera skills, but because some 'fraidy-pants didn't want to turn his pumps off for a few minutes.

Word of warning- these pics are hosted on Flickr and clicking the pictures takes you to my Flickr feed.

Any criticism on the images is appreciated since I still learning how to take aquarium pictures.

-'Nook in his room with the bigger of the two skimmers. He is a big dude... and can take that whole bottle in about 2 hours and still feel like a champion!

I'll have more later on tonight.

The pictures look good to me. Nanook, how long have you been dosing vodka, what is your current dose to what total water volume, and what are your NO3 and PO4 measurements?

I started dosing vodka per the instructions in the recent Reefkeeping article just 8 days ago. I have 1000 gallons total water volume, my nitrate hangs about 8-9 on Lamotte kit and my phosphate is anywhere from 0.04-0.07 with my Hanna meter.

I started with 0.1cc of Absolut Vodka per 25 gallons, so, 4cc for the first 3 days, then 8ccs for the next 4 days and today I added 0.5cc which is 8.5cc for the next week.

As of today, my nitrates and phosphates have not changed. The reason I started dosing vodka is because I have two huge skimmers and overfed with Rod's Reef over the last 9 months of having a new tank. Cyano has been an issue on the sand and rocks and I siphoned the sand pretty thoroughly with 8 water changes of 30 gallons in a week or two. I have went through a lot of GFO and carbon the last 9 months and it is pricy!

My goal is to stop feeding the Rod's which is pretty heavy in smaller particles that just collect in my sandbed, rock, etc. I am cutting back on feeding somewhat as I have a heavy hand. I am hoping to avoid adding a refugium with the vodka dosing method.
