Normal Mouth?

Is this a normal mouth for a carpet nem? This is before lights on. When they come on it doubles in size the weird thing to me is that I placed it on the sand bed and it moved to a rock that has a hole in it off the substrate it buried its foot and I cant seem to move him back to the substrate.

That's not normal. I would not try to move it.
