Not enough flow??

I have a tall 12 gallon with about 100 gph of flow from my Aquaclear Mini HOB. Is this enough or not enough. Im having some red slime algae problems. Should I get another small powerhead?

well if its a new tank its probably normal anyways, but to answer your question, no that is not near enough flow.

If its gonna be a reef tank, you'll be best to start at 20 times turnover rate per hour.

Right now you're at only 8.

Total you'll need around 240 gallons per hour. I usually go for even more than that, but that should be a good starting point.

Red slime is caused by a number of things but I found that by having a high turnover rate & good skimmer helps combat cyano. Your tank is deep so it is likely that you have dead spots where the cyano is growing. When I was having a problem with it I did all sorts of experiments & practically wrote a book on it. I see that you are going to do a 120 gallon soon, when you decide to put it together I would incorporate a closed loop system, I believe that closed loop works very well to keep organics suspended in the water column so that the skimmer is more effective at removing them.
My 2 centz.

Ya I intended to do a closed loop on the 120. The tank isnt new, several months old. I was using tap water while I waited for my replacement RO membranes and whatnot to come in. So im using filtered water again to try and reduce phosphates and nitrites. Im going to add a couple more pounds of live rock to day(actually its dead) because my tank is pretty empty, and im out of room to place corals. Would a powerhead like this help?

Also is a skimmmer needed for nano (not into nanos as much as larger tanks sorry) If so whats a good one to get?

I don't have any experience with Nano's, sorry. Never use tap water unless you have no other choice, IMO.
Just do what you can until you start up your 120.
Good luck.
