took the shots, not my corals. Credit in growing these monsters goes to Purplereef, and yes he has fragged them for LEAR club members too. He just has the green thumb for growing large coral

Outstanding! You just don't see many panther colonies. Any idea how old that one is?

Assuming he grew those from frags that would take like 5yrs at the rate those grow. Amazing....crazy he sold them.

You actually rarely see purple monster colonies that size either....but ya rarer in the pink Panther even.

the pink panther grows much faster then the purple monster.

So a year for the pink Panther from frag to that? Amazing. It must have been much longer for the purple monster. I have on that started as a good size frag and is now over 2yrs old and only half that size.

That purple monster sat as a half dead frag for years & then took off. I bet that's only 2-3 years of growth for most of it.

One thing that stands out is the frags were given plenty of room...........probably anwhere from 8-12" all the way around.

Maybe Dan can chime in to give the actual facts if I'm off a bit.

I would guess the purple monster could be going on 7 years maybe more

Thank you Erik for posting the pictures. The Pink Panther was Kevin Kohin's last piece he had of this awesome coral. Kevin was nice enough to trust that I wouldn't kill it and grow it out for him. I got it when LEAR made a road trip to Rylander to see LiveAquaria's facility there. Kevin is a great asset to this hobby! I did start this coral out as a very small 1" frag and in one year this is how much it has grown in my tank. Big E is correct in that I give all of my SPS around 6 to 8 inches of space to grow out. I have to constantly discipline myself not to overcrowd my tank with corals, because I do love the crowed tank look.
The Purple Monster I have had for 3 years. I lost my original .5" frag that I got from Sanddollar way back in 2000. I got a 1" frag from my buddy SPStoner(Tony) 3 years ago to try and grow it out again. Thanks for the compliments guys, Dan.

Amazing pink panther! Funny you find it grows pretty well; it does ok for me too. Once it gets size it picks up speed. Thanks for sharing!

No it's the original purple monster. Here's a frag from that mother colony under T5's. This pic is about 8 months old. I'll post a new one if I get a chance later.
