nUgZ's 40 Breeder

Thanks! I wish I had painted the back of this thing black before I set it up. It was really only supposed to be a temporary tank, but it has turned out a lot better than I envisioned originally. I'm thinking about picking up some of the plastic backing for the time being, but I know there is a removable stick-on back that you can get. Anybody know of a website? On another note, somebody gave me a Red Sea Prizm HOB skimmer that I'll be using for a while. I figure it's better than nothing. It seems to be working pretty well so far.

Picked up some new frags recently. Here are a few pics.

ATL Pink Polyp Montipora capricornis...browned out a little, but should improve a ton once I get the new bulb. Huge frag!

I love the tank, I do have a question though, I am new and do not yet have a tank so please forgive the newbishness, but i thought that you only needed 10times the volume in flow, so why do you have 42? I am just going to get a FOWLR for now and learn the ropes before doing anything with coral.

Thanks for checking in! Personally, I would feel like my tank is sitting still with 10 times turnover. On my 10g frag tank I had between 75 and 100 times turnover. 42 is OK for now, but I'll be adding another 1000gph or so flow.

Great looking tank nugz! Especially like the moon shots. What type of moonlights are you using?

Thanks Hiro! Check back...it'll only get better. The moonlights are in the Coralife Aqualight fixture. Not sure exactly what kind, but they are LED's.

Well you're doing the right thing by researching before you get started. Most people just jump in and then get on here and post questions about why everything died. Thanks for checking in!

Few new pics...we'll start with two moonlight FTS's.

More pics soon. Oh yeah, I got a baby Yellow Tang last week. He/she is doing well. I know I won't be able to keep it long term in this tank, but that's ok. It's loving life for now.

Got a few new frags in the last couple days. I have pics of two for now. More to come over the weekend. First is my new Duncanopsammia. It's one of the prettiest varieties I've seen. Now I just need a frag of the ORA and I'll be happy.

Here's a recovering Acanthastrea subechinata I got a day or two ago. It's got a TON of potential IMO.

Here's a pic of the growth edge one my Acanthastrea echinata frag. It has a nice glow under the moonlights.

I can never get enough of this pentagona.

Here's a new chalice I got yesterday. I'm thinking about going back and getting the mother colony as soon as I can. It's almost half red and half purple with bright pink eyes. My frag only has some purple, but it'll get better and better I'm sure.
