but cut that in half because you have 2 returns

Im picking it up tonight and due to the crappy oceanic site I can't be sure, but isnt it 1 drain and one return on the 70?

I thought only the 90 and 120 had multiple drains and returns

I would, but just doesn't work for my location right now. In my next house, I want to go inwall. Then the big boy will come!

Purchasing a 120g Tech.

Just to clarify, there are two returns and two drains on this size tank correct?

Will the bulkheads that come with the tank accept pvc pipe to connect, or do you have to use tubing for it?

Any help/thoughts on this would be great.

Thanks!

You are correct. Two drains and returns. You should get two overflow kits with your tank purchase. I did. If you don't, I'd pressure the vendor.:D The bulkheads with these kits are barbed, not slip, so you'll have to use spaflex hoses (not supplied, unless you also purchase the Oceanic sump kit with the hoses). If you check out my build thread, you'll see I have one hose and one slip bulkhead to my Oceanic sump and H & S skimmer.

I got it last night! I am working on the sump now!

Thanks Joe! PM sent.

Looks familiar Dave...I have the stainless steel one right next to my stainlesss steel blinds - sweet.

So, what are you doing with the eggcrate? Deep sand bed?

I'm preparing to relocate my 29g fresh water so I can start on my 70. Got to get my shelf live rock ordered, but I might check one of the local stores tomorrow first. My clowns are going to love their new home.

Im not sure if Im going to eggcrate the bottom yet. Im thinking about it. I am using it now for parts of my sump construction. A piece of it will be above the fuge for my pc light to sit on, and another part on the baffle between the fuge an return to stop chaeto form going into the display. Using melev's 20L for my design, just using a 29g tank instead.

So, I'm a plumbing noob and can't decide on the best type of plumnbing/connections to use.
The overflow kit's hoses are so long I can't really use them, plus it'll be ugly as hell.
Barbed?Slip? Glue? Thread? rigid pipe? flex pipe? Unions/valves....
Anyone know of a good step by step plumbing thread?
My new tank is in the main family room, i'm paranoid about flooding etc. Plus, I want to use the herbie method so that the overflow is silent, which means running a hose round the back. I was thinking of 3/4 flex pvc pipe, but will a glued connection hold the weight at the top of the tank?
Some pics would go a long way to helping me decide if anyone has some.
Cheers.

Thanks for the plumbing picture, that's exactly what I wanted to see. Until you see it you're not sure.

The black is flex pvc pipe? Is that the return?
What pieces do you have inbetween the bulkheads down to the unions?

Here's my sump on my 120 Tech. I used 3/4 inch Lee's tubing for the returns, and one slip bulkhead for the overflow to my skimmer, and one of the supplied barbed bulkheads for the other overflow. I have since removed the steel clamps on the tubing:D

thanks Joe, I need to post some updated pics, I allready have the tank up and running with all of my coral.

Yes, please post some new pictures. I forget, are you running the Outer Orbit 250 MH/T5 on the 120? Are you running a chiller? If so, which one?

Thanks,

Joe:cool:

i am running the 250 w outer orbit. Im soon to get some new bulbs. The 10k have no color. I decided not to run a chiller(sold it). I have been monitoring my temp and with the ac running during the day set at 76, the tank stays at about 81. I am going to purchase a fan to run over the fuge wich will cool it 2 degrees. How is your tank doing? I lost the thread. also Joe, have you had any water spills under the stand? I spilled about 2 cups and the stand is bubbling and chipping away. I emailed oceanic and they did not respond. I dont like paying 550 for a stand that is so easily water damaged. I do understsand it is particle board but for that price they should have put a little more quality into it.

currentking,

***I've spilled some water around the front of the sump, inside the stand. I've always mopped it up with a towel as soon as I saw it, though. So far, no bubbling or chipping.

***My tank is coming along....I've added four green chromis about a month and a half ago. I haven't done much except maintain it where it's been, because of the Christmas Holiday. I did get some eggcrate over the weekend, and I'll place my rock on that, since it's bare-bottomed.

***That's good you don't need a chiller. I'm hoping to get away with just a few small fans this summer, without running the central A/C constantly.

***So, you don't like the "white-ish" look of the halides that come with the Outer Orbit? I like the brightness, but maybe you can post a picture of your "before" and "after" metal halides. I'm not sure I'd want them more blue. Personal preference, I guess.

I have alot of acans that have red-green-yellow-pink colors and they dont come out very much in 10k lighting. not sure if I should go with 14k or 20 k.
