Time for a pic update.

Oh well, cancelled my order for the 45g... I thought they were 24x24x18 as listed on the Oceanic website... But looking at these pics, they are 24x18x24... :(

Can people with a 70 Tech chime in as to what they are using for lighting? I am contemplating this tank, but it just seems difficult to light well because its A) Deep for its length, B)tough to get a quality 36" fixture, and C) tough to use any retrofits because there is no canopy to match the stand it comes with (and the stand is a big selling point to me).
It seems like you could either use a single lumenarc, or maybe 2 smaller pendants like the RO3, or go T5, but there arent many 36" T5 pendants that seem reasonable at 24" depth. The Powermodule is one option but it has a huge wait to get one. I am not so much into the Solaris or other LED's right now either...

What is everyone using??

I am using a Current USA Sunpod 2 x 150W HQI hood for my 70g Tech. It's plenty of light for what I keep (LPS and zoanthids), but they also make a 2 x 250W version.

I'm in the process of setting up a 58g RR and also had a hard time finding a 36" fixture I wanted to go with. I have finally decided on the SLS Maristar which is a 2x250w HQI with 2 t5's. I'm going to specail order a 2x150w model as 250 is a little overkill for what I need. The reflectors on the Maristar are also supposed to be some of the best (Lumenarc I think). I really wanted to go with the Giesemann but they don't do a 36 and don't make custom units.

Cool to see some updated pices and progress of everyones tank. I want your skimmer Joe :) Here is a couple of pics of my tech 120, its 10 months old with a current USA fixture like Joe's but with gman bulbs. Not a good time to take pictures of my tank as my Vortech is working at reduced speed because of the power supply and cooler weather making me stick the only heater I had available in the tank :(

CT_Vol I feel your pain. I didn't find out until mine arrived. Needless to say I was pretty unhappy with Oceanics website. I'll probably have a Miami builder make me a tank with a 24x24 footprint when I move.

But for now here's my little 45 Tech (cherry). Currently running a 4x24w T5 retro w/icecap reflectors. I'm ordering another 2x24 kit tomorrow and will be angling the reflectors of the last two. I'm also building a canopy (also cherry) to squeeze all the light into. :D

hobbzz your 45 looks awesome. i was wondering how t5 would look over the tank, what bulb combo are you running?

Thanks guys. I really like your aquascaping Nismo. Is that DIY rock or did you just luck out with some cool shapes? And is that a blue milli top center?

Right now I'm running 2 Aquascience 22k's (similar to a blue plus), 1 KZ Fiji purple, and 1 aquasun. I'm ordering another aquasun and an ATI Pro Color with the last kit. I also have 2 blue pluses and one uvl super actinic that I'm not using, so when I get the last kit I'll play around with the last bulb as I'll definitely keep the 22k's, pro color, and fiji purple. The last one will be either the actinic, aquasun, or blue plus (probably blue plus or actinic).

I got the duncans as a frag of 5 heads, and now it's over 13, about 6 months later. In my last tank (20L) I could feed them without getting my hands wet, so I fed them every day. Now with a 25" tall tank I never feed them. Sick of getting my hands wet.

the rock is a mix of kalani, fiji and marco rock.

this was a ten gallon nano last january then became a 20l for 7 months and when that developed a crack it grew into the 45.

top center is two blue milli's that have been growning and coloring nicely for about 7 months

Is anyone else having problems getting the Vortechs to adhere to the back glass of the Tech tanks?:(

Joe

i have both of my vortech on the sides....

here are some updated pics. I cooked my rock for 6mo in a 800g system so it's nice a loaded with pods. I am running an EV180 with a mag9 that is dialed down.

I have not gotten mine to work on the back. Has anyone been able to mount the Vortech's on the back of their tank?

Fantastic looking aquascaping Ldogg. What is the differencence between the coloring in the 2 tank shots with the Solaris? 1 with flash-1 without? Also what are the types of live rock you have-specifically the flatter type?

yep, one with flash, and one without. it shows up cloudy and blue without, so I need to tweak my WB on my camera.

the rock is from marco rocks. the flatter pieces are tonga shelf. they are more dense then his fiji. the other pieces are the fiji. I had a buddy throw it into his 300g sump, for almost 6 months, so it would cure in an established system. if you contact marc, tell him the sizes you want, and he can send you pics of those pieces.
