Octo Extreme Skimmer KO Club

Yes. IMHO the skimmers do best in 7-7.5" of water.. so the"B" pipe is not needed at all! you can use the "ell" but make sure it is turned sideways.

I'll be working on a baffle and will try a 7.5" height, and direct the output over the baffle, maybe into a filter sock for noise reasons.

JUst recieved mt PPW and installed it a half hour ago. Man what a differance, this thing is way better than the stock pin wheeel. THanks for the advice on this pin wheel, well worth the $30 for it.

Got another question: would it be okay to use pipe B in between the T and the elbow? It would be much easier to direct the output over the baffle that way.

 it's just a saying, ;). I really like the idea of sticking askols on all the older large skimmers out there, why buy new acrylic. very cool.

Haha, just messin with ya bud.

Per everything I have read I removed the B pipe on my 160 3 days ago and there has been no difference in production what so ever. I have it sitting in 8'' of water. I have loved the performance of the skimmer since day 1, I just thought (based on everything I have read) that I would get better production by removing it. I have no startup problems with the pump either. I put the pipe back on because without it, I had to place a filter sponge under the output to quiet it down.

Just wanted to share.

I didnt chime in on this one when it was first posted but ... I didnt see any difference in using just the elbow or using the B pipe to extend the output. It shouldnt make much difference as long as there isnt any back pressure (if thats the right term) on the skimmer output and just extending the output with the b pipe after the elbow shouldnt add much if any. Submerging the output completely under water can and often does cause some problems but I havent seen any difference at all just using the B pipe to extend the output a little. I initally used a small mesh filter sock on the elbow to catch any microbubbles and quiet the flow. But I removed that and added the B pipe and directed the output flow to go around the back of the skimmer which is located at one end of the sump. This allowed any microbubbles to completely dissipate before getting to the intake of the return pump so I no longer needed the filter sock. BUT, I keep the end of that pipe partly out of the water ... so it isnt completely submerged. I didnt have to make any adjustments to the skimmer at all so again, I didnt see any difference at all between having the water exit directly from the elbow or from adding the B pipe after the elbow to extend the output. As long as neither the elbow nor the end of the B pipe extension is completely submerged it didnt make a difference with my skimmer.

Just installed the PPW last night and it's working great! Big time improvement over the white PW. Only problem is that I have to blow into the airline to get it to restart every time, what causes this?

well ordered two wheels for my skimmer...

Has anyone seen the new "Reef Octopus Bubble Blaster" pump? I saw a video posted last week but since it's on another reefing site I'll let you search for it (it's easy to find on any search engine) since I don't want to post a direct link here and get into any trouble. And it's also already posted on the Reef Octopus (Honya) site Bubble Blaster Pump . I wonder if it will be a possible replacement pump for the Sedra for those who need a bit more power? From what I can tell it is supposed to be out soon, but nobody seems to have a price for it yet.

I have the same problem, and it turns freely. I played around with it yesterday and found if I turn the pump horizontally it starts up after a few seconds. It almost looks like it can't get enough air down the tube when it starts up, I can see the water jumping up and down in the tube, but it doesn't clear out completely and let the air flow. Turning it horizontally seems to work fine, but I may play around with replacing the hose with a slightly larger diameter hose to see if that help any.

when it starts up it clanks loudly and I can see water rising and falling in the air line... if that helps.
