Yes. IMHO the skimmers do best in 7-7.5" of water.. so the"B" pipe is not needed at all! you can use the "ell" but make sure it is turned sideways.

it's just a saying,
. I really like the idea of sticking askols on all the older large skimmers out there, why buy new acrylic. very cool.

Per everything I have read I removed the B pipe on my 160 3 days ago and there has been no difference in production what so ever. I have it sitting in 8'' of water. I have loved the performance of the skimmer since day 1, I just thought (based on everything I have read) that I would get better production by removing it. I have no startup problems with the pump either. I put the pipe back on because without it, I had to place a filter sponge under the output to quiet it down.
Just wanted to share.

JUst recieved mt PPW and installed it a half hour ago. Man what a differance, this thing is way better than the stock pin wheeel. THanks for the advice on this pin wheel, well worth the $30 for it.

Got another question: would it be okay to use pipe B in between the T and the elbow? It would be much easier to direct the output over the baffle that way.

Just installed the PPW last night and it's working great! Big time improvement over the white PW. Only problem is that I have to blow into the airline to get it to restart every time, what causes this?
