What Pump?

What Pump?

Thanks for all the quick responses...

I have a MSX 200 currently, the 200 nw was what I upgraded from.

is the valve on meter open all the way?
Dgunn, if its the DN-200, there is a mod kit that comes with sicce pump (will work on alot of skimmers http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/c...e-Upgrade-kit-for-MSO-NW200/product_info.html

Thanks for the link Charlie, I did that same upgrade to my nw only without the Sicce pump.

I figured that the MSX would be a better body to put the Sicce on since it has a larger neck and bubble plate.

Just currious how does the skimmer preform with the Gen X 4100? I read all of the thread before I bought my octo extreme 200 and a few people did not like the sicce pumps,"to much noise", I am happy with mine. There is a small humm but it is not louder than my dart return pump. [/QUOTE]

Jsin, the GenX seems to work ok, I added 4 layers of PF4 and a 3/8" tube for a venturi and it is pulling 25 scfh but is rated at 70 watts. I does hum a little but my sump is in a fishroom in my basement.
Here is a pic... (2.5 days)

I was really wondering about upgrading to the Askoll pump rather than the Sicce but the link to the MSX forum answered that question.

So what I am really needing at this time is the Sicce with a pinwheel? And if so is there anybody that has upgraded their 250 or 300 to the Askoll that wants to pass down their old Sicce to someone who is behind the curve a little? If so end me a pm about particulars ($) :)

thanks,
doug

I currently have an octo nw 150 with the upgraded pinwheel. It is an alright skimmer but i am useing it on about 125g of total volume and it really doesnt skim as well as i need.I was wondering if upgrading to an octo 200 extreme or msx 200 with the ppw is worth it.I am really not interested in modding the skimmer so i would want to run it stock besides the upgraded pinwheel and maybe changing out the airline to one that wouldnt kink.Is this going to make a big diffrence or am i better off waiting and getting another skimmer.I only have 24" in height to work with so that is a limiting things a bit.

Anyone knows if there is another pump that can be used to replace the psk2500 on an extreme 200?

I find the psk2500 too noisy like a garbage disposal.

I have only started to run it since yesterday, but I just don't see how the noise can improve given any amount of break-in time.

TIA,
Ron

Sorry I just want to ask if there is a different between MSX200 and Octopus Extreme 200 from Reef Specialty. I see that the stock MSX200 is 10$ more expensive than the octopus Extreme 200 on the site but seem like they all have the same pump and dimension.
Also I currently have a 90g heavy stock +20gsump/fuge = 110 total volume. and currently running Octopus NW100.
What skimmer do you guys recommend for upgrade? 200 or 250?
Also how much different will I see from Nw100 to Extreme 200?

bk-market - If you can swing it, I'd go with the Octo 200 & the new large Purple Pinwheel (PPW) from Reef Specialty. The pinwheel is about $30. You likely be purchasing it down the road, this way you get free shipping.

Very pleased with my MSX200 with the PPW.

I just recieved my Octo 250 and WOW is it big. I knew it was a 10" body, but when I got it I was shocked. This is the largest skimmer I have ever owned so that could be the reason why. It really needs a 16X16 space to fit in! Just to mention, reef specialty was very fast to ship.

I also have a question. How high should I have the water level in the skimmer? Should the water be up into the collection cup neck? And if so, how high?

Anways, here are a few pics of it breaking in. Enjoy.

lurchccd, The 250 skimmers are pretty much like the 200.. 7.5 to 8" of water.
Bubblebreak (water level) should be at first bend in the body.. (@3" below neck)

They do quiet with break in believe it or not depenidng on what is causing the noise. If it is a bad pump then it should be covered under warranty. They arent nearly as noisy as your description when running properly so either break in will quiet it or the pump or a part of the pump is bad and warranty will cover it. Contact the dealer. If it's a Coralvue branded extreme, then you will likely have to deal with Coralvue directly ... you may need some good luck there. If its and MSX/SWC purchased through MS ... no problem, they will take care of it.

Tang, or others with wattmeter.. Please tell me what PF (power factor your sicce pump is running.. :D

Charlie sorry took me so long but I just ran 2 test for you on the 2500.

Sitting in 8ins. of water
Vertical its pulling 22wts.-@ 29scfh
Harizontal its pulling 21wts! @ 31scfh

With new Purple pin wheel. on a Octo Pro 250 skimmer with bubble plate in place ! I tested with out the plate and there was an increase of 2 scfh on each and wts fluctuated about a 1/2 wt.

I use Dyer meters if it matters to you guys.

Charlie If you guys like I have a 250 Octo Extreme I can set back up to do some more testing if you like and see what we can come up with.

See what the skimmer will do in very low water, maybe 4-5 inches.
