October Meeting - Saturday October 29th @ RTMA - Norwalk, CT

RTMA

DIY Fanatic
Hey Guys - I'll be hosting our October meeting on Saturday October 29th.

My holding system will be on display along with my new LED-lit Nano tank.

Topics:

DIY Vortech Battery part deux. For those that missed the July meeting, I'll go over in detail what you will need (and where to get them cheap) to create your own DIY Vortech battery for under 60 dollars.

Quick and Dirty QT for frags I'll be going over how to create a quick and dirty QT for corals using equipment you may have lying around.

Halloween Frag Raffle - We had great success with our Halloween frag raffle last year so lets do this again. More details on this to follow.

Logistics:

Location: 10 Pine Hill Avenue Extension, Norwalk CT 06855
Time: 2 to 4 pm.

Should be a great meeting. If anyone has anything else they want to donate, you can post here.

I may be able to bring some lovely riccia myself, plus some ORA Arco frags. Small of course, as I've only got a nano. But from the smallest acorns grow the mightiest oaks, and especially beautiful if they were ORA acorns. ;)

Whoa! I forgot! I'm going to bring a few hundred home grown Tigger pods to the frag swap also.

Oh nice I could use some of those I lost a lot of them during the power outage. I haven't seen any pods since.

In addition to the corals mentioned above, I will be donating the demonstration DIY Vortech Battery Backup we will be building in the meeting.

We will be building a 12v 7.5 AH battery backup which should power a MP40 for about 12 or so hours and an MP10 for 18 or more. (the winner will have to purchase his own 12v float charger)

Hope to see everyone there!

Really? This is going to be one SERIOUS frag raffle! Given we rarely have as many as 10 people, anyone's got a good shot at that! Thanks!

Everyone is welcome. Everyone can buy raffle tickets, which BTW are always cheap. And if you do make it, pls come ready to talk reefkeeping, 'cuz that's primarily what we do... have fun sharing our reefkeeping experiences. :)

Just got the battery in from BatterySharks.com. If you are looking to DIY one after this meeting they have great prices and since they are in NY, you get it next day.

Looking forward to see everyone. Can't wait till the 29th!

Nice raffle, I'll also try to bring some stuff then. This weekend I'll try to rip as much zoas as I can from my tank before the reboot so I'm sure I'll have plenty of frags as well.

I tested the 7.2 ah 12v battery this weekend. Results were fantastic, the battery powered my MP40w ES from 9 pm Friday night until at least 1 AM on Sunday morning. It lasted at least 27 hours! It died sometime between 1 AM and 9 AM Sunday. Someone will be walking away with this on Saturday :)
