Hi,

I am considering the 20'' 250 watt MH odyssea fixture for my 29 gal. biocube and was just wondering how everyone else likes these fixtures? Please share all experiences with this manufacturers products. Pics of your tank with this fixture would be nice.

Thank you.

Also, I am ordering from a guy named Hommby on ebay, ever heard of him or any experience working with him?

I bought the same fixture from him not long ago. Have it pendant style over my 20 cube. I like it just would prefer lower K-rating than the 20k-maybe 14k, but still nice fixture. The electronic ballst for the MH is a really nice improvement and there are separate cords each for the moonlights (not much power there, I added extras), fans (keep unit really cool), actinics (2x24wt), and MH. In the pic it has the legs, but I went pendant since. The legs I didn't trust much and make set too low for my corals. The included pendant is a decent kit.
I paid $169 shipped

My friend had good luck with the seller you mentioned above from ebay... I myself am not a fan of the odessya lights but I respect to each there own and what you can affoard :)

So yeah if you buy from that seller, I wouldnt expect any problems :)

don't know the anything about the seller, but i've heard about those lights having wiring problems, and one of the guys in our reef club, his ballast started on fire, but others are fine, so i guess it's just luck of the draw lol

The new ballasts are electronic compared to the older magnetic. Mine is cool enough after running 5 hours to pick-up and hold with no problem. The top of the light unit runs even cooler with the 2 fans on. It is only slightly warm to the touch. Very nice unit, the electronic ballast version.

Im getting the same one for x mas from my gf from aquatraders.com figured id compare it to my hamilton on my other tank.

They recently completely redid their line and the new lights are much, much better then the older line. My fans never run and the ballast is completely quiet (but huge).

Don't think aquatraders has the electronic ballast unit yet. Double check on that before buying. The new 20" is 250wtMH and the magnetic 20" is 175wt. The new 20" unit is also being listed as a 24" because the legs extend out to 24". Don't think the older units have separate cords either, but I could be wrong on that.
Only place I have seen the new 20-24 inch is ebay with Homby. I have searched extensively.

There is a new seller on ebay with the new 250, but with shipping is about $30 more expensive than hommby. I have heard he is a great seller. My Viper just literally broke so I think I'm going to pick these up.

Just wondering if anybody ordered recently from hommby and what were your impressions on the light. I'm looking into getting one and the ones from hommby seem to be the latest.

FLricordia: either you or someone else posted that the fans were off? So is there some kind of temp sensor that automatically turns the fans on and off? Also, care to share how you added the extra moonlights? Thinking about using the dimmable leds/rope light from target.

Also if anyone gets a chance what are the dimensions of the ballast itself?

Thanks,
