Oh no - my gig started wandering

I've had my gig for about 6-7 weeks now. Despite one minor collapse the first week, he has always looked great, very sticky and eats well. However, I've always noticed that his mouth has never been in the center of the critter, but rather way off to the side. I assume maybe he budded this way? His mouth has always been "ok" but never great for tightness. I always found this odd because how healthy he otherwise appeared.

Well last night he decided to leave the rock pile and climb up the overflow box, right up to the teeth. While I'm happy he didn't find the powerheads, now his mouth looks terrible - almost like it can't support the body mass of hanging vertically on the wall.

So, now I face the question that almost all nem-keepers ask themselves eventually: do I get a credit card out and carefully remove him from the wall, and bring the lights down a little; or leave him alone and hope he doesn't find a powerhead?

Man I was just about to claim victory with this thing. But I guess if it were easy it wouldn't be fun.

HELP!!!! When I took the overflow cover off I found this!! ***??? I didn't even know this could happen. I'm just heartbroken. How am I gonna fix this???

I tried gently pushing him through and using an ice cube, but he was really stuck. I wound up snipping a piece of the overflow to get him out. Over half his body squeezed through just one of those tiny holes in the overflow. I think I did it about as carefully as it could be done. Didn't notice any cuts or tears, which would be incredible if true. I'll post another pic in an hour or so.

This was just crazy. Why would he want to crawl through the overflow? Not sure how I could even prevent this in the future.

Normaly when an anemone will move toward an overflow, powerhead or filter is because of flow problems. How much flow do you have in the tank?Im sure that u have a few powerheads but he may not have enough.I may be wrong this is just from what iv been told.

I would assume that to be true as well, but I have 1 Korallia 4, 2 Korallia 2's, and a eheim powerball in there, not to mention strong return nozzles! This is a 70 gallon tech. The power heads are all on a wavemkaer too!

Bad week for Nems I guess? Maybe it has to do with summer coming?
Really sorry, and hope it pulls through.
Just too bad they cant talk, just cant figure out why they wander after staying put for a good amount of time?
Looks like were in the same boat.
1) Hopefully a full recovery(wow thru 1 slit on the overflow= UNREAL)
2) Why the heck are they wandering?????????
Anyways, best of luck to ya, and good job cutting the overflow. Very smart move on your part.

Thank you syno. Interestingly, it doesn't look too bad and quickly reattached and has even moved around the rock a little. I'm just amazed. If he isn't internally damaged, then I see no outright damage on the outside. I'm still in awe, because this is a fairly large nem, and it squeezed half of its body through a hole about 5 mm wide.

Thank you.

Ya know - I'm developing a crazy new idea about these guys. Ya ever notice when ya get a new nem, how it quickly looks great in your tank, despite shipping and relocation etc etc? Then you give it a nice stable home, and unfortunately most decline?

Well here I am looking at a nem that practically sliced itself in half, and now it looks awesome. So... they're masochists!! They LOVE it when you rough em up. We're too easy on them! They don't want stability, they want you to mess em up!

Well, I told you it was crazy :)

Nems are full of water, I had one shipped to me that was 6 inches across when fully expanded. Long story short the person who shipped it to me "forgot" to put heatpacks into the box and by the time it got to me the water was about 3 or 4 degrees C. When I got it it was less than and inch across, and its tentacles looked like hairs. I figured it was so close to death there was no point acclimatising it and just threw it straight into the tank. Within an hour it had expanded to about 2 inches. A week later it's back to it's normal size. This is testament to how hardy these things are if they are healthy. If the nem had been a sick specimen like a lot of the nems on the market, it would never have been able to survive the trip.

Thought I'd dollow this up. The little trip thru the pinhole does not seem to have affected this guy at all! This pic only shows about half of him; the other half is behind the rocks. He's huge. Right below the center flap in the shadow are my clown's first clutch!
